b-HO just can't seem to help himself when it comes to guns. At a factory tour in Pennsylvania, where he was practicing his "community organizer" skills on some bitter, God-and-gun clinging peckerwoods who actually work for a living. Suddenly, according to the Wall Street Journal, the Messiah got blindsided:
A woman in the crowd told Obama she had “heard a rumor” that he might be planning some sort of gun ban upon being elected president. Obama trotted out his standard policy stance, that he had a deep respect for the “traditions of gun ownership” but favored measures in big cities to keep guns out of the hands of “gang bangers and drug dealers’’ in big cities “who already have them and are shooting people.”Wow! What a thoughtful answer! So if he could get the votes in Congress from his Democratic toadies, he's send the jackbooted thugs door to door?
“If you’ve got a gun in your house, I’m not taking it,’’ Obama said. But the Illinois senator could still see skeptics in the crowd, particularly on the faces of several men at the back of the room.
So he tried again. “Even if I want to take them away, I don’t have the votes in Congress,’’ he said. “This can’t be the reason not to vote for me. Can everyone hear me in the back? I see a couple of sportsmen back there. I’m not going to take away your guns.’’
Let's be very clear here, when b-HO talks about "keeping guns out of the hands of gangbangers and drug dealers," that is Democrat-speak for "a new assault weapons ban with teeth." If Barack Obama is elected, the Dems will move quickly on a new AWB, because he and his "progressive" friends can't afford to wait.
Here's why — an Obama election will generate what amounts to a "storm surge" for progressives, which is Democrat-speak for "socialists." In his first months in office, b-HO will be riding that surge and he will be under intense pressure to put his progressive agenda in place while the cheers are still ringing out. The new Assault Weapons Ban has to be one of the first pieces to put in place, because if b-HO waits, the Blue Dog Democrats, the Dems who rode to Congress on high NRA ratings and the gun votes in their states, will start to shake off the euphoria and start worrying about their own reelections.
Secondly, the Democratic bet will be that the powerful gun lobby will be dispirited and probably somewhat disorganized after a McCain/Palin loss and a Dem sweep of the White House and Congress. To butcher Macbeth, "If it were done when 'tis done, then 'twere well
It were done quickly..." The faster the Dems move on an AWB — an important item in the Democratic Platform; an item specifically mentioned in b-HO's corronation speach; a personal crusade for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Vice President Joe Biden's pet project, remember — the more likely an AWB passage.
Here's another point...the faster the Dems roll out an AWB, the harsher it will be, because they think they can get it. No sunset provision; no lookalikes left out of the Bill; major controls on standard capacity magazines; tougher penalties for transfer or posession...the list goes on and on. b-HO's comments in Pennsylvania echo the comments from Senator Dianne Feinstein on 60 Minutes in 1995:
"If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an out-right ban, picking up every one of them... 'Mr. and Mrs. America, turn 'em all in,' I would have done it. I could not do that. The votes weren't here."The votes weren't there...same as b-HO...I don't have the votes. But you can be sure that Greasy Joe Biden, the architect of the Clinton Ban, will be there behind the scenes twisting arms using the power of the Presidency to get those votes!
AR-15s are the best-selling rifles in American, the base of a huge industry, now used by hunters, competition shooters and people concerned with home defense. In 1994 the Clinton Ban affected reletively few people; now millions and millions of Americans own and enjoy using the Swiss Army Knife of rifles. Does anyone here honestly believe that the Dems, for whom gun control is a holy crusade, will stop once they get their new AWB?
Almost certainly a new AWB will contain a "grandfather clause," but here's what I predict (based on the experience in Nancy Pelosi's and Dianne Feinstein's home state of California):
• A newer, tougher AWBHey, it happened in California with SKS rifles, so Pelosi and Feinstein have a baseline to work from. If anything, the technique is standard with gun controllers around the world:
• Registration of "grandfathered" so-called assault weapons
• Confiscation of grandfathered guns
1) First, ban the new onesI don't have the votes...think about it...
2) Then register the old ones
3) Seize the old ones
