I took the day off and went snowboarding with my Sweetie, who perversely insists on skiing — tres embarrassing! Skis! Yesterday's technology...old news...an excellent sport for people with walkers or on crutches...well, if it makes her happy, it can't be that bad, to crib a phrase from La Crowe.
It was about 50 degrees, so it was hardly a world-class powder day. I hauled out my old Burton all-mountain board, which I figured will run in just about anything; I've used it at A-Basin in June in a mix of slush and mud, so I figured it was perfect for today. It was. You know, of coursed, that boards sing. Skis may, too, but I was never good enough on skis to hear it. I started out with some big, looping carves until the board found its way and began to sing. Nothing quite like watching that roostertail of ice crystals behind you.
Hey, it was a good day!
