Louisiana IQ Test!

This from the Times-Picayune:
Interest Rising in Concealed Handgun Permits

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The number of people applying for concealed handgun permits has risen since Hurricane Katrina hit southeast Louisiana, but Louisiana State Police aren't sure why.
Hmmm, there's a toughie! Now why would anyone in south Louisana want a concealed weapons permit just before the beginning of hurricane season? Gosh, I keep twisting it around in my head and can't come up with a reason! I mean, Ray Naglin was re-elected Mayor, wasn't he? Isn't he a STUD HOSS warrior man of the people protector of the innocent? I mean, tears, racist comments and Constitutional violations aside.

Hmmmm, let me posit my own reply to that puzzling question:

ANYONE IN SOUTH LOUISIANA WHO DOES NOT NOW OWN A SERVICEABLE BATTLE RIFLE — A QUALITY AR-15...MEANING ONE YOUR BROTHER-IN-LAW DIDN'T BUILD OUT OF THE CHEAPEST PARTS..., A 100% FUNCTIONAL AK-47...THINK "KREBS"...AN M-14/MIA, AT THE VERY LEAST A GARAND OR A LOWLY SKS — AT LEAST A DOZEN TESTED MAGAZINES WITH CARRIERS AND AT LEAST 1000 ROUNDS OF AMMUNITION IS A DAMNED FOOL!

They want the "concealed weapon" to fight their way to the battle rifle. Duh!

Actually, I lived in New Orleans, Kenner and Metairie for 7 years, and I managed fine with a Mini-14 and a Colt DS-II. Honestly, the typical thug/potential looter was historically very poorly armed in the New Orleans Metro area. In addition, they had next to NO knowledge or training, even with what they did have. A decent weapon and a little know how was all you would ever have needed. On the other hand, I was in Laplace, LA (20 miles west) during hurricane Andrew; a tornado ripped the house we were in up a bit, and we immediately went for the pistols. The cops made it to the "nice" neighborhood that the house was in within 2 minutes. Within 30 seconds of that, they were turning away carloads of people from the bad parts of town with crowbars in their hands.

I lived down there most recently from 2002-June 2005. I left 3 months before Katrina hit, and you've never seen a happier puppy that I didn't have to fight my way out of that hell.

I like your reply, but I fear many of those folks arent getting a CHL so that they have a handgun to use to fight their way back to their rifle - sadly, many probably believe a handgun is sufficient.

I have known licensees who hardly ever carry, I have known guys who had a CHL, and battle rifle(s), but dont keep a rifle handy, or dont have more than one loaded magazine ready for their rifle. I know shooters who dont have CHLs (and in Tx we cant open carry either), and guys who only have two magazines for their battle rifle, guys who only have a box or two of ammo on hand, or have multiple rifles and an average of less than a hundred rds each.

Even as many learn the neccessity of some defensive measures, it is easy to take only the first step down what should be a continuing path of preparedness.

They need the CHL to fight their way to the battle rifle. The battle riffle lets you fight your way to the GE Mini-Gun. The from their you fight your way to the M1A1 Battle Tank. At that point you should be reasonably safe but NEVER let your guard down. The smart warrior has a short range tactical nuke in his arsenal for just such an emergency.
