WASHINGTON - Nonlethal weapons such as high-power microwave devices should be used on American citizens in crowd-control situations before they are used on the battlefield, the Air Force secretary said Tuesday. What a good idea! I say start with Congress, microwave the whole miserable lot of them, then serve 'em with drawn butter and maybe a hint of parsley.
Domestic use would make it easier to avoid questions in the international community over any possible safety concerns, said Secretary Michael Wynne.
Non-lethal weapons have been this panacea for years...spray 'em with icky stuff, bonk 'em with rubber balls, Food Channel 'em...then the non-lethal thingie kills someone, the manufacturer redefines the product as "less lethal" and nitwits like Michael Wynne go back to the drawing board.
I'm bracing for the tsunami of gun control crap after the Montreal shootings. You might want to visiting VampireFreaks, the website of choice for the shooter, Kimveer Gill, AKA The Angel of Death, just to keep tabs on what the kids are up to...or you can go straight to Mssr. Death's favorite Internet role-playing game, the Super Columbine Massacre! In truth, I don't have a clue...but if I was a college student, I think I might take a break from binge drinking and throwing up to take a shooting class...
We gun owners had better brace for the worst. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Lead Reid will no doubt have gun control at the top of their agenda (whatever happened to the "moderate" democrat that the people of Nevada elected to the Senate?). Those two, along with Presisent Feingold in '08 are enuff to keep you awake at nite.
ReplyDeleteThe incident occurred in Canada, which has a "could issue" CCW law, but it is unclear if the bureaucrats have actually ever done so for urban usage. Secondly, it was a between high school and university prep school, with most of the students in the 16-19 range. I believe such persons would not be eligible even in the US to purchase handguns (no matter what the purpose).
ReplyDeleteI do agree that this likely gives ammunition to the "unilateral personal disarmament" movement.
The firearms brought to the scene were allegedly all registered, but that didn't stop the tragedy.
I like the quote from a past Canadian Justice Minister, Douglas Lewis - "We can't legislate against insanity".

One of the profound differences between this incident and an earlier similar incident at another Montreal university is that line police officers are now instructed to advance and engage the shooter(s), rather than fall back, form a perimeter and wait for SWAT. I'm sure it had a positive effect on the number of casualties.

Come ON people. When it comes to "non-lethal" force, nothing works better than a combination of pepper-gas, hickory sticks, and well-trained police dogs that like to bite... Ask any experienced campus-cop.
ReplyDeleteAt least you didn't suggest serving them up with some fava beans and a nice chianti....
ReplyDeleteMichael, thought you knew that one needs something like mint jelly to cut the gamey taste that Congress can leave in your mouth, not drawn butter and parsley.
