Prince? Of all the wonderful music entertainers out there , they chose "Prince"??!!? Are the ones in charge on crack? He's as disgusting as Michael Jackson. I went to the kitchen to fix more snacks when Prince made his apperance. The rest of the houseful went back to playing poker. Interest in the halftime entertainment choice was 100% "not interested".
Of course, in these dark days of Justin Timberlake and Brittney Spears and Posh Spice, and all the other bubblegum, pop acts that consist of highly produced and electronically enhanced lip-syncing combined with overly-choreographed dance routines, being a "rock guitarist" is a little like being the best farrier who opened his shop right down the street from that "assembly line" factory for Henry Ford's newfangled horseless carriages.
It's a time-honored and elaborate skill, but none of the younger folks really care or notice any more.
I'm not saying I like this set of events. I'm just saying what the current state of events is.
As much as I don't want to...I too like Prince..yesterday I was having high school flashbacks during half time....I played the crap of the Purple Rain album..and yes I wore purple while doing it(God forgive me)..let's just say ,my girlfriend at the time got a little"excited" listening to his Purpleness(thank you Prince,I owe you one)

Different style, but: Mark Knopfler. I won't complain about Prince, though.
The best rock (or otherwise)guitarist ever: SRV--Stevie Ray Vaughn.
I can appreciate Prince, but what do you guys expect of any halftime show? I do not think they are directed to the sports fans; I think it is just kind of a bone that is thrown to that other segment of the market to make the game more palatable to them, to make it easier for the sports fans to watch/attend the games, or to do so at the cost of a little less grief.
And marching bands? What is that all about? (I think I know but cannot express it politely.) I love music, and even honest-to-goodness marches; But halftime marching bands? Man, just think about their costume, travel, time budgets. What a waste!
I don't mean to start a post-swapping exchange here, but I feel like I can shed light on the "Marching Band" issue.
The marching band at the SuperBowl halftime was the Florida A&M University "Marching Rattler" band.
Fla A&M is in Tallahassee.
The band is totally equipped, funded, scholarshipped, etc, but FAMU.
Speaking as one who played tuba in a college marching band, in all probability, here's what happened.
The SuperBowl halftime folks wanted a marching band, and FAMU is there, and is noted for a certain style of marching.
They called up FAMU and said "Hey, would y'all like to be in the Super Bowl halftime show with Prince?"
And the band gladly paid it's whole way down there.
The band I played in did the exact same thing for the halftime show of the infamous "Kicker Bounty" game between Dallas and Philly back in the late 1980s.
My vote goes to Alex Lifeson.
ReplyDeleteYou got to be kidding. Tony Iommi is the best guitar picker ever, bar none, in any genre!!!! Black Sabbath is the best rock band ever!!!!
ReplyDeleteJoe Satriani. Accept no substitutes.
ReplyDeletePrince, AKA the Artist, AKA the Doodle, made me long for the old days of Celebrity Death Match.
ReplyDeleteI turned the channel to soemthing else.
