In what has to be the longest foreplay in firearms history, Remington has finally bought Marlin!
This from the PR Newswire:
Tommy Millner Remington's CEO, said, "I am pleased to announce that Marlin's well known brands with a long heritage of providing quality rifles and shotguns to hunters and shooters around the world will join the Remington family. The opportunity to combine two historic U.S. based companies with such storied and proud histories, is both challenging and exhilarating."Good lord...if it had taken any longer, we'd all have collapsed in exhaustion! I mean, this thing has been percolating seemingly forever.
"We look forward to working with Bob Behn, a well respected member of our industry. He will remain as president of Marlin, charting a course of further growth and operational improvement," Mr. Millner continued.
What does it mean?
Not the slightest idea...I'm going to have to think about it a bit...my little cherubs and seraphim have been telling me that Marlin has been doing excellently in big-bore lever actions, but has been making noises about getting out of the cowboy lever gun business. I know they've got people standing in line for their 39A lever .22!
I'll try to reach Tommy Milner tonorrow and see if I can get him on the podcast next week...
mb--absolutely great podcast today--just loved it--as you said--dangerous but interesting times are coming in 2008--have a merry and a happy!!---dmd
ReplyDeleteWell, the boys and girls on Arfcom are predicting a wood-stocked AR15 in 45-70 to begin with...
ReplyDeleteThis can't be good. Lets see. Rem Arms is owned by Cerebus. Cerebus is owned by Damlier/Chrysler. I am sure this Company is really dialed in to the 2nd Adm. Seeing how they are a German Company. From now on my rifles are going to have Sabre, Robinson Arms, Fulton, and the like on them. Who's to say these have not been bought to close down. I has happened before.Regards

ReplyDeleteYour facts are off just a bit, Cerebus is not owned by a German Company. The three-headed guardian of Hades is an all-American, 100% capitalist, private equity beast.
PS: Sabre is a British owned company...aren't they a bunch of socialist gun-banners too??
ReplyDelete(intentional use of sarcasm)
Take a look at the Remington 10K's. They are bleeding money. Cerebus bought them because they will swing the axe. The firearms industry is not the place to make money. I suspect you could buy up the whole damm industry for what Bill Gates spent on his house. 400 million a year is nothing dudes and dudettes. That qualifies you as a small/medium busiess. Basicall little better than a mom and pop shop. And this is the largest manufacturer we have?
ReplyDeleteI believe that Cerberus OWNS Chrysler. They bought it from Daimler, when Daimler wanted to get rid of a "mistake". Cerberus IS NOT owned by Daimler-Benz, as they are once again called. Cerberus is it's own "holding" company.
