Thompson accuses Bush Administration of overlawyering in DC gun case, opposes remand
The Fred Thompson for President, South Carolina bus tour reached Spartanburg today, where the Law & Order TV star candidate fielded questions at Papa's Breakfast Nook from Charlotte, N.C.'s WBT-AM radio talk show host Jeff Katz.
Asked his opinion of the Second Amendment and the Solicitor General's request that the DC Circuit Court remand the appeal back to the trial court for "fact-finding", the lawyer turned Senator from Tennessee said the Bush Administration was "overlawyering" and stated that he opposed remand and that the case should move forward to the U.S. Supreme Court.

THE SELL-OUT...Thompson Stands UP!
This from Red State:
I'm glad to here this, as I'm holding out as a "Fred" supporter. I hope that he seizes the opportunity to continue this discussion. This issue is what we and Fred needs to help him win the nomination.
ReplyDeleteIt's unfortunate that the media has ignored this issue, all be it on purpose.
Most of America is also unaware. It's through Blogs like this one and the NRA site, that word is getting out. Thanks.
Fred is RIGHT.
ReplyDeleteWhere are the other candidates on this issue? Why aren't any of them speaking up?
The silence is deafening.
Fred has made it perfectly clear: he is the ONLY choice for us!
Now more than ever, we need the NRA to get directly involved in this primary. I urge all you readers who are NRA members to contact the NRA and tell them as members you want the NRA to endorse and actively campaign for Fred Thompson.
YES !!!
ReplyDeleteFred Thompson is SO "The Man". I just wish the MSM would cover him.
Fred is only in the race at this point to help out his friend John McCain - who he endorsed in 2000. His plan is to rob Huckabee's votes and base so JM can win SC and then move on to Florida and super Tuesday - this way McCain can have all the dirty things said about Huckabee via Fred without being accused of running a "dirty campaign." Fred will drop out on Saturday night after the SC primary and then probably endorse McCain again - who is just a gun owners dream.
ReplyDeleteFred is going nowhere fast in S.C. Thompson may Stand UP but no one is listening.
ReplyDeleteI don't see Fred dropping out unless he is in BAD shape once the votes are counted. He can handle second. He can handle third, or even fourth, if the percentage differences between the others is small. He would have to finish something like more than 20 points out of first to drop out.
ReplyDeleteAnd if he did drop out, no way would he endorse anyone. He would immediately become the #1 prospect for VP on just about any ticket - no reason to piss off Romney or Giuliani by endorsing McCain, when there is no guarantee McCain will win.
About the only involvement I could see Fred having after dropping out - and that's IF he drops out - and before accepting a spot as VP on the ticket would be continuing to attack Huckabee as the liberal democrat that he is.
Yes, Fred and McCain are old friends. Yes, Fred endorsed McCain in 2000. But that's ancient history, and McCain has really pissed off conservatives since then. Fred has said as politely as possible that McCain is DEAD WRONG on several top issues like immigration. No way Fred endorses McCain over the others - at least as long as Romney and Giuliani are in this.
Maybe - MAYBE - if the battle comes down to McCain and Huckabee, Fred endorses McCain.
But let's all pray to God that doesn't happen.
You choose a VP to compliment the candiadate. Fred, while I am hoping he can turn things around, is really only a good compliment to Huckabee, to throw off some of the Liberal spin that has been created about him. But since Fred has created most of that spin by stretching half truths I think he has talked himself out of the job.
ReplyDeleteMcCain will choose Liberman as his running mate. No telling who Rudy will go for. I can see Huckabee choosing McCain. Maybe Romney goes for Rudy.
Sadly, I think Fred's continuing campaign is actually robbing us of a true pro-2nd amend. candidate.
NO!
ReplyDeleteYou don't choose a VP to "compliment" the President.
You choose a VP who can take over as President if necessary and who can serve as President of the Senate.
Fred has basically implied that, if nominated, he will choose a VP who is essentially like himself.
And that is the way you win with the conservative message. You run a REAL conservative as President with a REAL conservative as VP. Ideally, the VP would be a little younger, and could be groomed to be the next President 8 years down the road.
You do NOT try to "balance" the ticket. That just waters down the conservative message.
