I'm trying to keep up with the amicus briefs for Heller — here's the link from Volokh. Of course the one you've heard about the Congressional amicus brief FOR Heller, signed by Vice President Cheney. Here's the NRA take:
Led by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas), bi-partisan majorities of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives - in fact, the largest number of co-signers of a congressional amicus brief in American history - filed a strong brief in support of the individual rights view. 55 members of the Senate and 250 members of the House co-signed this brief along with the Vice President of the United States. This landmark brief argues that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual, fundamental right to Keep and Bear Arms; that any infringement on this right should be subject to the highest level of constitutional scrutiny; that D.C.'s categorical ban on handguns and self-defense in the home is unreasonable and unconstitutional under any level of review; and therefore, that the Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit's opinion in this case should be upheld. At least not every Republican has sold us out!
"Good taste is timeless"?
ReplyDeleteIt is in extremely poor taste.
I would have thought you were making a funny but since you said you like it I can only assume you mean it.
It belongs on the same gunshow table that sells the Anarchist Cookbook and the other fringe products.
Grow up.
Yeah, like that old rag the constituion.
ReplyDeleteSmile...wait for the flash...
ReplyDeletefunny as hell, man.
anonymous@11:01,
ReplyDeleteConstitutional and Good Taste are two different things. NeoNazis and the KKK have a constitutional right to assemble and spew forth their racist, bigoted filth. It is not in good taste and is rejected by all Americans except the lunatic fringe.
The gun pictured IS NOT in good taste.
Jesus, guys...lighten up!
ReplyDeleteIt's funny!
Would I do it to one of my guns? No. Would I want to go into court with it? No. Do I think it's in bad taste? Who cares?
We've spent the past 30 years SUCKING UP to the antigunners, convincing them that we're very very goody good people with only good taste and the best manners and only own guns-not-weapons and oh please oh please like us!
Where has it gotten us?
A Republican President we elected sells us out...an antigun movement that actually laughs at our endless protestations that we're really nice people (you should hear what Brady's spinners say about our "guns" vs. "weapons" arguments!)...we LOST the hearts and minds war with this strategy, dude!
And yet we still pretend the same old tactics will somehow, miraculously yield different results.
The antigun people hate us because we have guns...they will continue to hate us even if we're cute as a button, only wear Izod shirts, apologize every third word and only do things in the best of taste.
The unswayed middle will continue to be what it has always been...largely oblivious.
I once wrote a white paper on "normalizing firearms" in American society...part of that concept requires that we as gun owners and shooters quit the endless round of self-censoring for fear of offending antigunners, because antigunners play on that fear and use it against us.
So laugh...it's okay..

What part of "IT'S A BLOODY JOKE!" was missed?
ReplyDeleteSure the product is available but how many do you really think they sell? Poor taste-guess what it's all over the gun tubs and muzzles of the units deployed downrange to protect your right to say its in poor taste. Don't ever forget it.
I love it, going to have it done on one of my guns.
ReplyDeleteReal question:
ReplyDeleteIs McCain one of the 55 senators who signed FOR us, or is he still blowing smoke?
Just checked, and YES big John DID vote for it!
ReplyDeleteMaybe there's hope ~ ; - )
MB,
ReplyDeleteWhat do antigunners have to do with it?
It is in poor taste and has nothing to do with antigunners.
In the old west anyone who carved notches in their gun was held in contempt by "real" gunfighters/lawmen/law abiding citizens. This gun would only apeal to the same sort who would carve a notch in their gun butt.
I have 4 notches on the left grip of my handgun, 3 where my fingers go, and 1 for my thumb. Will I be held in contempt? It is funny and I am SMILING, won't wait for the flash though. We should never take ourselves too seriously.
ReplyDeleteTo all those complaining, forget the gun porn, get a life, and read the really important stuff in the post -- the pro-Heller amicus briefs. As of the deadline, 46 - yes, forty-six - have been filed supporting Heller and the individual rights position. Only 20 were filed supporting DC.
ReplyDeleteHere is the link to all of them:

Look under case filings. There is at least one brief that answers every one of the opposition briefs. History professors - check; Brady - check; DC - multiple checks; linguistics professors - check; and the Solicitor General and the Bush DOJ - check, check, and more checks.
There is a lot to read there. The bloggers on volokh.com have done a good job of pointing out the better ones and why they matter.
Gotta love ya Michael. You actually read our comments. I wrote the tongue-in-cheek "And the connection to shooting is?" comment to the Uno blog. Your headline to today's entry proves it. Of course I got pounced-on for my entry, just as you are here, for today's blog.
ReplyDeleteThe picture is an obvious touch-up job, meant to be funny. It looks like the letters are added to the pic', since they spill into the bore chamfer. It is funny in the context that it was presented by whoever offered it, I'm sure. Maybe we're missing that detail. Anyhow, it's similar to the
t-shirts that show a big revolver on them and say "Protected by (Insert favorite gunmaker here)" underneath the picture.
Now, for the real meat here: the info' on the response by our senators and representatives on the Supreme Court case. Good information. Thanks for the links also, go to "anonymous 6:26 P. M.
Check out this audio and let me know how good you feel about the CONgress critter brief. KBH sounds like a single shot would satisfy that "pesky ol' right." The government is ALWAYS selling us out, no matter which "party" it is.
ReplyDeleteThey just don't get it.
