Butt, Alligators, Etc....

Sorry it has been slow blogging...am up to butt in alligators, and it's probably going to take me a couple of weeks to dig out. I'll fill you all in when I catch my breath...

In the meantime, here's an interesting article referred by my old friend Paul E, in the National Journal on the candidates and gun control:
When Clinton was first lady, her husband pushed through the only significant federal gun control legislation passed in the last 15 years: the Brady bill, which requires a background check to purchase a gun; and the ban on semi-automatic assault weapons, which Congress allowed to expire in 2004.

Peter Hamm, communications director for the Brady Campaign, noted approvingly that Clinton and Obama both have long records supporting tighter regulations on guns. "We would be happy with either of them," he said.

In the wake of the Columbine High School shootings, Hillary Clinton urged Congress to pass laws restricting handgun sales to one a month and raising the legal age of handgun ownership to 21, according to her memoir.

"The name Clinton is synonymous with gun control to us," said Andrew Arulanandam, the NRA's national spokesman.

As a senator, Clinton has supported numerous curbs on guns: extending the ban on assault weapons, requiring background checks at gun shows, allowing civil lawsuits to be filed against gun makers and gun dealers, requiring mandatory trigger locks for handguns and making state gun-trace records available to the public.

Obama supports all of the above as well. When he was running for Senate in 2003, he filled out a questionnaire saying he supports limiting handgun purchases to one a month. He also opposes laws allowing citizens (with the exception of retired police officers and military personnel) to carry concealed weapons.

The NRA and the Brady Campaign can point to only one noticeable difference in the candidates' Senate records on guns. Obama voted in favor of legislation prohibiting the use of federal money to confiscate weapons during a disaster. Clinton voted against it. The NRA has given both of them an "F" in its rating system.
Give 'em an "F!" That's why I'm somewhat grudgingly endorsing McCain, whom I have spoke ill of in the past...welcome to the Worst Case!

GUNWISE, listen to tomorrow's podcast, where I wax poetic about the Mag-Na-Port incredible action job on my Charter Arms Bulldog .44 Special. It is slick slick slick, and I predict that the little Bulldog is going to become my little pocket blaster of choice!

I gotta go watch the last episode of Jericho...sigh, another decent television show bites the dust! Somebody should nuke CBS!

I'm glad they at least did 7 more episodes of Jericho. They did a great job. Funny, all the TV shows I like get canceled. I think I'll just wait for DVD releases in the future so I don't get attached to a show only to doom it!

Michael: But what if McCain says one thing and does something altogether different? It's not like he hasn't done it in the past. Where is his reliability and predictability????

OH! That's right, he's a maverick and marches to the beat of a drum only HE can hear.

Everyone is banking on the fact he will BE the positive alternative.

  4. Doesn't it almost always boil down to picking the lesser of the evils?

When will Crimson Trace make a laser grip for the CA Bulldog? Or what laser grip for another pistol will fit?

Cthulhu, why settle for the lesser evil.

I would've thought a .44 bulldog would work well on alligators... Guess not.

So here's how that conversation goes...

"I voted against banning assault weapons. I voted against banning hi-cap mags. I oppose the DC ban and signed on to the Hutchison amicus brief," said John McCain.

"Well F#@* You Very Much! You didn't oppose background checks at gun shows. You came up with McCain Fiengold, and that hurts the NRA's ability to speak up for us. I rely on the NRA because I'm too god damned lazy to do it myself and rather use my time to bitch from the sidelines.," said Mr. "I'm not comfortable with McCain."

"But I thought you cared about gun bans and the Heller case," said McCain.

"F#%& You Very Mmuch! That's not good enough! I want absolutely purity like I had from Bush ! ad Bush 2," said Mr. "I'm not comfortable with McCain."

"But didn't they push through restrictions and appoint a Solicitor General who argued in favor of local restrictions?" asked McCain.

"F%#* You very Much! Don't argue with me," said Mr. "I'm not comfortable with McCain."

  8. I'm not comfortable with McCain either — and Frank, I agree with you 100% on his trustworthiness — but Obamarama is going to be the Dem nominee...slice it dice it any way you want, and Obama still comes out a genuine 1970s-version kitchen table socialist, closely allied with elements of the left that I think most of us find utterly repugnant to a freedom-loving people.

I had hoped the Obamarama would be a sideshow, bleeding the Dems until Lady MacBeth — who couldn't be elected if choirs of angels attended her rallies — squashed him like a bug. Unfortunately, LB has proven to be as inept a campaigner as her husband is a genius at it.

I fear the "youth vote." Every election cycle the Dems proudly proclaim that young people in America are ready to stand up; then, come election day, those same youths stay in their dorm rooms, huff glue and watch American Idol downloads on their laptops. Unfortunately, the Obamarama is charismatic enough that he might actually bring these brain-dead junior proles to the polls...we were all that age once...try to imagine a world we would have created...YIKES!

I have a gut feeling that this election is for all the marbles, choosing whether we go forward as America or as yet another European-style politically correct, socialist "republic."

While I retain the highest respect for the Prophet — the result of having studied Islam in college in order to write my religion major Squeeze's papers and, subsequently, get laid — I'm a bit long in the tooth to start plotting the correct angle to Mecca and purchasing prayer rugs.

So yes, there's a chance McCain will turn on us. But for sure the Obamarama is antithetically to everything we as a free people believe. He is the viper held to our breasts.

Makes the choice clearer for me...

PS: Now that I've finished ranting, I had a long talk with the Powers That at Crimson Trace yesterday, and we can expect to see LaserGrips for the Charter Bulldog very soon now.

Michael: I'm at the age I'm tired of holding my nose and voting for the lesser of two evils. I want to see WHO the VP is when they runs as a ticket.

ANON 9:04: I don't give a damn what he has said on anything. It's all in the past. If you study his record an any number of issues he has a habit of pandering to the crowd and then as soon as he leaves the room he goes off in HIS OWN direction without any reflection on what he promised whatsoever, so go ahead and drink his bath water if you want. I want some accountability before I waste my vote on another backstabbing Republican.
