Obama Cancels Armed Pilots Program

From the Washington Times:
After the September 11 attacks, commercial airline pilots were allowed to carry guns if they completed a federal-safety program. No longer would unarmed pilots be defenseless as remorseless hijackers seized control of aircraft and rammed them into buildings.

Now President Obama is quietly ending the federal firearms program, risking public safety on airlines in the name of an anti-gun ideology.

The Obama administration this past week diverted some $2 million from the pilot training program to hire more supervisory staff, who will engage in field inspections of pilots.

This looks like completely unnecessary harassment of the pilots. The 12,000 Federal Flight Deck Officers, the pilots who have been approved to carry guns, are reported to have the best behavior of any federal law enforcement agency. There are no cases where any of them has improperly brandished or used a gun. There are just a few cases where officers have improperly used their IDs.
Notice a pattern here? Every little weasel in Maximum Barry's administration is pouring over the books looking for the word "guns." When ever they find that word, they move to strike it. This is the new battlefield!

Where is it written that flight security officials are saying the story is "bunk"?

I see a Washington Times Editorial...I see not evidence supporting your statement "....and already flight security officials are saying the story is bunk."

Only trying to verify statements, not start a flame war.

Sadly this might be one of those cases where the majority of gun owners don't care. The fractionalized gun community still doesn't see how smart BHO and his crew are. If they can disarm several thousand FFDOs and no one raises a peep, then our destiny is sealed. It won't be by breaking down doors. It will be done by implementing regulations and rules that strangle the 2A.

So let this be the test case. Let's see how much noise the 2A community makes. I'm betting not much or at least, not enough.

The program could evaporate and no one would notice. That's because Bush and his buddy Minetta fought the program every step of the way. If Bush had embraced the program and made it into an active thriving program people would notice and we'd also have benefitted from a lot of good pro-self defense p.r. for the last seven or eight years.

He's not coming for our guns. He likes hunters and the second amendment. Everything is all right. He will protect you. Just turn in your guns for a $10 gift card from wal mart and you won't have to worry about him taking them.

"Lot more to this. Not accurate but alot of truth to some of it. Problems are TSA and not obama"

This is a quote from a friend who is heavily involved in the Pilots Union and the Armed Pilots Program. And he is no Obama fan.

He predicted this to me before the election.

I'm with Jeff_R on this one...had Bush and Minetta created a program that was actually EFFECTIVE instead of dragging feet and erecting roadblocks all the way, this would be a concern. Now, it's no more than a blip.

The next American plane that gets taken because the pilots couldn't fight back is due to more than just Obama's policies...
