A Bit of Weekend Cheer

From Chris Hedges at TruthDig, via the Survival Blog...remember, THE BEST DEFENSE: SURVIVAL starts in a week on Wednesday nights...and not a moment too soon! The America Empire is bankrupt:
The cost of daily living, from buying food to getting medical care, will become difficult for all but a few as the dollar plunges. States and cities will see their pension funds drained and finally shut down. The government will be forced to sell off infrastructure, including roads and transport, to private corporations. We will be increasingly charged by privatized utilities—think Enron—for what was once regulated and subsidized. Commercial and private real estate will be worth less than half its current value. The negative equity that already plagues 25 percent of American homes will expand to include nearly all property owners. It will be difficult to borrow and impossible to sell real estate unless we accept massive losses. There will be block after block of empty stores and boarded-up houses. Foreclosures will be epidemic. There will be long lines at soup kitchens and many, many homeless. Our corporate-controlled media, already banal and trivial, will work overtime to anesthetize us with useless gossip, spectacles, sex, gratuitous violence, fear and tawdry junk politics. America will be composed of a large dispossessed underclass and a tiny empowered oligarchy that will run a ruthless and brutal system of neo-feudalism from secure compounds. Those who resist will be silenced, many by force. We will pay a terrible price, and we will pay this price soon, for the gross malfeasance of our power elite.
Read the whole thing, then buy more ammunition.

I generally agree and think the premise is sound. Comments about where we are headed is less sound. Methinks he is a tad liberal taking swipes at FoxNews and the military budget, which pales in comparison to the largess of budget items not nearly so basic and critical to survival.

I think it is outstanding that someone in California is seeing the end of this monetary squirrel cage. It is good journalism on his part to mention the meeting of Chinese and Russian leaders...and especially to mention how we, the U.S., were excluded.

I disagree and do not so easily dismiss that BHO can avoid appearing the impotent buffoon leader that he is. BHO and his handlers can use this collapse to solidify their positions if they think ahead and think cleverly.... who is going to oppose them...the RINOS?

I'm still sticking with a general trend of inflation increasing in August and the beginnings of hyper-inflation in November-December. When is say inflation...I speak of the devaluing of the US dollar driving the costs of goods through the roof.

I hope we are all wrong about this. Many will say "Hey, this is America, we always come back." or "People who voted for BHO realize their mistake and lurch to the right"...again, I hope so and that I am wrong. The base underpinnings of America are not the underpinnings enjoyed by the resurgence of Greatness enjoyed under Reagan. We may come back, indeed I pray we come back, but I will wait and see and hold my "relief" in the future being bring in check.

    Balderdash. BS. Drivel.

That's the same line the survival movement was spouting in the 70's while smiling Jimmy was "leading the country into ruin".

If the economy collapes as described there won't be an elite to lead the peasants as there won't be any organized government. It took centuries for the feudal system to emerge in western europe after the collapse of the western Roman Empire.

If our econonmy collapses we can look forward to huge die offs from starvation and warfare as local military commanders try to establish themselves as warlords "to establish order". Think Somalia on a much larger scale.

Of course no one can predict these things. The collpase of the Soviet Union took everyone by surprise.

It will take much more than an ammo stash to live through such a collapse.

There may have been denial, but there was no surprise.

The collapse of the Soviet Union took no one by surprise.--Anon

Perhaps it would be better stated: The timing of the collapse of the Soviet Union took no one by surprise.

Socialism always leads to decline, despair and destruction, but as Adam Smith once observed, "There is a lot of ruin in a country."

When the dollar dies is anyone's guess, but the event is inevitable, given the magnitude of the unfunded liabilities assumed by Congress.

Just thinking about the situation in Iran. Remember the general population cannot own arms. That being said how do you protect yourself from the thugs. A real life example of gun control at it's worse.

You are looking at a supposed Oligarchy that wants to live in Bunkers and travel with an entourage of "SECURITY" forces to go to the beach, shopping (ala Airport to some secure "mall" in undisclosed location). And they wish to "ENJOY"" the richness and Full Life their 'Bunkered"lifestyle affords them, such as 1st. class medical facilities?Fresh wholsome food supplies? and of course Dining at Wolfgang Puck's(or any NY,LA,or whatever) table 2-4 times a week.
Not to mention the "ENTERTAINMENT" opportunities to strut and style their expansive and expensive designer clothing and accessories? ALL UNDER AT SECURITY BLANKET? AH YES ,You can be ASSured all rich elitist ,present and wannabe oligarchs are making plans and executing them to achieve these Dreamlike lifestyles?
You need to look long and hard at the French Revolution and how a small agressive group made life un tenible for those in power.
We have 5-10% that will support, manage and execute the same tactics. They HAVE aprox. 96hrs. to completely destroy that resistance,If THEY FAIL the Numbers go to 10-15%(etc.,etc.) plus the trust factor in their own ranks heads towards ZERO.
I'm tired of hearing how omnipotent this bumbling govt. is!!

That's correct, and if Reagan had not worked to reverse jimmy the jackass's policies the double digit inflation and unemployment figures under his mismanagement would have continued to spiral upward.

You are looking to far into the past for your examples, look instead at Russia, where the oligarch's have , under their friend Putin, retained their power and live just about exactly as you describe.
