Regarding your post about the new Ruger 10-22: I think you may want to check your facts. The Ruger 10-22 is not the most popular 22 in history as I believe the Marlin Model 60 beats it by a bunch of units sold.
Based on published stats, you are right and I am wrong. The Marlin Model 60 is a fine little rifle for introducing young people to shooting. That said, thre Model 60 has never gone beyond that niche.
Eh? Awful lot of folks use a Marlin 60 as knockabout/iron sight/truck gun. I love mine and am gonna buy a spare one of these days.
The conventional rap is that while you can, with enough $$$, accessorize your 10/22 into an uber rimfire sniper race gun (or an ersatz AR, as we learn this week), still, the Marlin 60 is a more precise rifle out of the box, and it costs less than the 10/22 to boot.
Never had a Marlin Model 60...have a Winchester 190 from way back when, whch can only be disassembled with 2 friends and a pet monkey. I don't think the 10/22 gives up anything in the way of accuracy to the Marlin...

Perhaps none of the aftermarketeers have ventured into the Model 60 arena. Could be done, methinks.
ReplyDeleteI'd surely look long and hard at one tricked out to resemble a Garand, but I'm unorthodox that way.

Im gonna make a Krinker Plinker out of a 10-22 sometime this year. Ive been thinking about it for some time..I just gotta get off my butt and do it.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised you haven't made a Krinker Plinker Michael.
I just can't warm up to a tubular mag 22.
ReplyDeleteNever had one that worked right.
