Pistol Caliber Carbines

http://hellinahandbasket.net/?p=525

Hell in a Handbasket has an interesting take on pistol caliber carbines:

<>

You already know I'm a pretty big fan of pistol caliber carbines as self-defense alternatives. The current crop of lever guns is amazingly good, and of course Marlins have been around so long the first versions were used to plink dinosaurs...

  1. Well, when I got back in to guns after years of not owning any, I almost immediately latched on to the pistol/pistol caliber carbine combo.
The price factor of ammo was a consideration, and being able to shoot at pistol only ranges was a plus.
On of my first few purchases back then was a surplus Star BM, and one of those humpbacked little Hi Point 995 carbines. I paid around $320 for the both of them.
It was a good entry, or rather re-entry level decision on my part.

  2. I love the pistol/carbine combo. I have an XD9 and CxStorm9 that use the same mags. 16's, 20's, 30's. I use it when I take and give classes. Although I'd rather have the .45 versions for home defense, they are reliable and I'd trust my life to either one. In 9mm it's (fairly) cheap to shoot and every body can handle the recoil. I think the utility of being able to carry one caliber is cool too!

+1 the 1894 Marlin Levers. Bought our lil' carbine for $400 new at Big 5. Scary accurate, handy, and utterly reliable. If I'm forced to foot it after SHTF, I'll have the Marlin and a Ruger GP100 on my hip. Nothing this side of two rocks is more reliable.

Of course the Marlin Camp 45 is a real winner too. Uses 1911 magazines, handy, accurate, fun to shoot, easy to use. Doesn't scare the sheeple. I always wonder why marlin doesn't re introduce it....

Well, at least I've got mine

    :-)
