Since it snowed on the last day of summer, today is sort of the first day of Winter, The Sequel. I'm getting ready to head upstairs to the studio to work on the podcast, and I've got to work on the set-up for the new 2010 video blog that will debut first on DRTV, then on OutdoorChannel.com. And no, I have no idea how I'm going to get this done, but I'm sure I'll get it figured out by January.
I'm heartbroken that my Sweetie's Christmas present isn't going to make it by Christmas. Months ago she informed me that she'd like a longbow for Christmas...she's not much into shoes. I asked her whether she wanted the whole Sherwood Forest outfit, cute little short skirt, green beret, etc. like the above costume. She said no...emphatically...just a lot of arrows. After a couple of days of research work, I placed an order for a custom longbow with SiegeWork Creations, a tiny shop specializing in traditional archery. Christmas delivery was always a long bow shot crap shoot, but I had hoped. Sigh.
We'll be doing an Asian-themed Christmas dinner, after our orgy of traditional carbo bombs that we did for Thanksgiving. Grilled tuna will be the centerpiece. And lots of cold sake. Ho ho HO, says I!
I note this AM from Steve over at The Firearm Blog — who apparently stays up late — that HERA, the guys who did the "instant carbine" Glock are doing a similar trick with the 1911. Looks pretty cool, but it'll have to go through the 1934 Firearms Act hoops before it makes it to the U.S. A 16+ inch barrel would solve the problems.
I thought I'd link to a particularly cheery column in the U.K. Telegraph, titled, "There'll Be No Place To Run From The New World Government:"
And if the EU model is anything to go by, then the agencies of global authority will involve vast tracts of power being handed to unelected officials. Forget the relatively petty irritations of Euro‑bureaucracy: welcome to the era of Earth-bureaucracy, when there will be literally nowhere to run.Last weekend meg-blogger Megan McArdle, writing in the Atlantic, made some telling points on the health care vote that is worth repeating here:
No bill this large has ever before passed on a straight party-line vote, or even anything close to a straight party-line vote. No bill this unpopular has ever before passed on a straight party-line vote. We're in a new political world. I'm not sure I understand it.What's not to understand? Midnight votes? Passing bills no one has read? Locking the opposition not only out of the debate but out of the room? Ignoring the voice of the electorate? Huge bribes of public money openly paid for votes? Any of this sound familiar? There's nothing new here...it is the politics of Third World strongmen, the politics of African warlords with blood on their hands, the politics of Eastern European thugs...the politics of Chicago. "Change" ain't always "good."
The Chicago way is like the Tammany Hall way is like the Chavez goon way etc....
ReplyDeleteThe guys in DC now who run the show don't have cordial discussions over cocktails about the fine points of political "science". They are there for one reason. That all consuming taste of power. They have more in common with the Mafia, Jimmy Hoffa (blessed be his name), or the theological gangsta's running Iran than a Tommy Jefferson, Johnny Adams or the rest of that lot.
We (editorial "we") are responsible for what is going on now. In 10 months we get another chance at saving ourselves from the abyss. The strongest fear of my entire life is that if "we" screw up again, "we" could find ourselves in a really bad place. A place that other nations have been, and regretted.
That is one ugly gun.
ReplyDelete"...there will be literally nowhere to run." Then you might as well stand and fight.

Cheer up! This abomination surely will energize the voters to kick some Dimlibcrat butts out of office next fall. Surely. If it doesn't, well...
ReplyDelete@ Clark Kent... I have bad news for you, bud.
ReplyDeleteI think the next move the Dem-oh-rats are going to pull is amnesty for illegals.
I mean how else are they going to be able to counteract the votes of seething socialized healthcare opponents, but with millions and millions of "new" instant citizens and "new" instant voters (aka know predominantly as Hispanics, with a few thousand illegal Turks, other Moose-lems, Bosnians, Croatians...etc). when it comes to the midterm elections this November.
Well, Anon, if it comes to that, you're right. We're screwed.
ReplyDeleteBut then they'd hafta move all the "new" citizens to key states, or the only states the Dims would win'd be the ones on the Rio Grande and, of course, Kaliforgone. And they'd hafta print all the ballots with Spanish subtitles - or pictures, for the illiterate.
I'm not quite so pessimistic...yet.
Too old to run. Too big to hide. Never was much for runnin' and hidin' anyway...
ReplyDeleteDo you think there will will be an election? If there is do you think acorn and all the unions and all the slush funds will make it honest?

@ Clark Kent...while you are busy googling up stuff on the VPC and the NASGD, try doing a google image search for red vs. blue counties in the 2008 presidential election.
ReplyDeleteThen compare that to the electoral college results of the red vs. blue states.
Then go to wikipedia and do a search for "sanctuary cities".
2 + 2 + 2 = 6
Any one state that has a huge metropolitan area, which just so happen to be breeding grounds for democrats, will most likely electoral college-ly go to however that big city voted.
So in those instances, the whole winner takes all the state elecotoral college points sucks. Big time.
They are "gaming" the electoral college system. And they are getting better at it all the time.
I think that Hera 1911 add-on qualifies for ugly-gun Sunday of the week.
ReplyDeleteAnd for what it does, and the cost, I think I'll go with a High-Point carbine in .45 at half the cost & none of the hassle.

It cannot succeed as a matter of fact, that's what I suppose.
ReplyDeleteIt's all erroneous the thing you are saying.
