The Last Airport of the Year!

So I was at the Tulsa airport staring aimless at a spot between the magazine rack, women's fashion rags, and the Duracell display when it finally hit me that this is my airport of the year. If I can get out of Tulsa before the line of storms I can see moves in I will have gone the distance for 2011. Heck of a year -- taking SHOOTING GALLERY to an hour, the huge success of GUN STORIES, the addition of Mike Seeklander to TBD, our announcement of GS/RAPID FIRE as a new series, 2 more Telly Awards for excellence in programming, a lifetime achievement award from my Overlords at Outdoor Channel and the Communicator of the Year award from POMA/NSSF, a "Gunnie" award for the best podcast of the year...not a bad 12 months!

Of course, one of the things I learned as a music critic all those years ago is that you're only as god as your last hit...the holidays are a chance to find a bunch of new rabbits and stuff them in hats, to be ready to pull at the appropriate time.

A lot of my focus in 2012 is going to be on the Internet...there's a ton of things Marshal and I want to do for DRTV. I'm also planning on "building out" the new SHOOTING GALLERY format...there were too many changes we wanted to make to try and cram them into one season, so for Season 13/2013 (assuming I'm renewed) we've got some more surprises up our sleeve.

In the meantime, Uncle has funny piece on what he would like to see for SHOT versus what he will see...read the whole thing. He's pretty much on target, with a couple of exceptions I can't tell you about now. He got me thinking about what I'd really like to see, realizing that I might be the only potential market for some of this stuff.

• A centerfire double-barreled howdah pistol...my heart tells me in .500 S&W Magnum but my brain suggest something obscure, like 40-65. I could probably compromise on .50 Special.
• A .380-sized semiauto in .22 LR...a great CCW practice tool!
• A .44 Special Ruger SP101 (I keep begging and begging, but so far, nyet)
• A Scout forward-mount scope with an illuminated reticle...please...
• A coffeemaker that fits on an AR rail

How about you guys?

    Re: Shot Show

    I would like a Winchester 92 in .45 ACP or .40 S&W.

Not sure the SP frame and cylinder size will fit 5 .44 sized cartridges in the cylinder.I think the .41 will fit five. Maybe a .40 cal with moon clips.

A small-frame Ruger in .44 SPL would be fantastic. I had a Charter Arms that was a good idea in principle, but it was absolutely trash.

Colt python. I know that the original manufacturing equipment is supposedly part of a damn in outer Mongolia. So what? Modern CNC produced colt revolvers. I'd buy 5 next year.

  7. On that coffee maker, would it be a 5 cup or a 7 cup coffee maker?

I figure that's the only thing missing from the array of things you find on these guns.

    Michael, Merry Christmas...

I'd like to see the .44 Ruger too. I guess I'd have to think of this for a little while but one of the first things to come to mind is a
.22magnum Ruger Scout rifle just like the .308 lefty (at least for me!). Would be great for economical practice & small game. Maybe Marlin Guide gun with an 18 1/2" octagonal barrel....

    Hi Michael,
Sorry for leaving an off-topic comment, but I just saw the latest episode of The Best Defense, which was pretty good. But please please please stop saying 'nucular' instead of nuclear.

This clip demonstrates how to pronounce it.

An Bulldor sized LCR 44 spl would be preferable to the SP.

A top break in polymer, chambered in 5mm Remington.

  12. A Keurig coffee maker would be ideal. Fresh coffee when you want it and the ability to change from decaf to dark roast when the balloon goes up.

  13. So...a "high capacity" coffee maker on a rail vs single shot?

We have to beware of those high capacity coffee makers! Ban themtheymakepeopletypetoofastandaredangerous!

Michael, I thought the P22 fit the ".22 LR in .380 sized frame" pretty well?

Okay I figured another one I'd like to see it is an updated Colt 1903 in .380 or better yet 9mm. Kimber has the Solo which seems pretty close in looks but I haven't handled one yet......it's on the short list though

  17. Hell, I would take a new made Colt 1903 in either .32 or .380. My gawd what a great pistol and I already have 3 of 'em...

  18. Agree with Frank & Rob...would take a 1903/8 in a heartbeat! Interested in seeing what the Sig Sauer scaled up P238 ends up...stay with me here...the P238 is, essential, a Colt Mustang, which was a shrunken Government Model .380 which was as close as any manufacturer has come to an updated 1903. Sig could hit a screaming home run with a THIN single stack little bitty 9mm a bit bigger than the Kimber, which us a handful...

BTW, is there some kind of cult of Walther out there? I only see the things at SHOT...I never see any of them at the range! Yeah, the P22 would work, but I'd rather have a GLOCK/Ruger/Kahr etc. .22!

On a good day, yes. On an average day, maybe.
You don't see them on the range because they're a PITA to clean and have a dubious lifespan.

I bought mine after having shoulder surgery. I blame the pain pills!

You do know that you can get an illuminated reticle scout scope from the Leupold custom shop right? There is an online scope vendor that has even ordered a supply of them if you do not need too much customization. It is a 1.5-4x28 VXR...I have the non fire dot version and I can tell you it is a great scope.

Yeah, Robert Silvers of Advanced Armament Corp is working with Leupold to produce something like a 1 to 4 or 1 to 6 variable with an illuminated BDC reticle for his .300 AAC Blackout cartridge.

I reckoned if anybody was going to run a far forward scout type scope, well, it would just be a one power red dot like an Aimpoint or Aimpoint Micro.

Does anybody make an illuminated pistol/revolver scope? Since it is a pistol/revolver scope, the eye relief would be so much longer and more forgiving.
