Moving On...
...which is about the only thing I can think of to do. A dear friend, himself a legend in law enforcement, told me many many years ago (and late at night, I might add) that the greatest challenge of his life was to find a way to live in a world he neither agreed with, liked, nor truly understood...a world that that had no place for people like him. I've been thinking a lot about that conversation over the last couple of days and how we go forward in an America that is not the America we all envisioned or, indeed, want to live in. I don't have a lot of answers right now, but a few things come to mind. We need to all become "preppers" in a sense, prepared enough to insulate as much as possible our families from the uncertain times that I believe must come. You don't have to build your own Secret Hidden Bunker in the Rocky Mountains, but you do need to be aware and have a plan. I believe we need to redouble our commitment to the cause, the right to keep and bear arms, but also to stand for the Constitution at every point. That is going to be harder and harder to do as the progressive juggernaut thunders forward and the social pressures to "get into lockstep" increase. Finally, and I know this is going to sound a bit trite, but we need to remember to live both with honor and with joy, because our individual lives may be the only things we can truly control. Your thoughts?

Michael,
Nice points and like you I had a similar conversation with my dad a WW2 vet, not too long before he died. I agree with how your friend feels and I feel that way right now.
I am not a lock stepper and will die never to become one. But I am also not one to bury my head in the sand although lately I have had my hand on the shovel....so to speak.
But America, the great country we all love has lost it's way and there is no one around that is actually a leader. I see no real future down this road it appears we are going down.
Here in New England the people were fiercely independant & of course it is where the beginings of our country had it's birth. I would like to think we still are like those New Englaner's of old but the region went solid Blue.
There is a reason the 2nd Ammendment follows the first & we all know why. I believe in our Constitution I really do. But so many of our reps and the president think it is a living breathing thing to be formed & evolve with the times. I don't believe that no more than I belive the debt will stop growing at 16.3 trillion.
How to fight the good fight? How to move on?
Sincerely,

Remember the saying that "generals are always fighting the last war ". Well baby its now America 2.0 Four years go by right quick. I now don't doubt that we could see a 2016 ticket of Hilary and Pelosi that gets elected. At that point any dystopia is possible. Including 7 or 8 justices appointed to SCOTUS.
Calm yourself there pudgy white boy. The world is not coming to an end, it's just that your fox-news bubble has been burst and you are having to deal with reality. You old white guys have systematically gotten your depends into a twist over this president because he doesn't look like you, and deep down inside you realize the 'Merica you grew up with is changing, and that frightens you to death. But just because you spend all your free time thinking up nightmare scenarios, does not mean they are true...
Anonymous? How bout you climb out of those "pink pull-ups" put on some big boy pants and use your real name.

I dislike Obama not because of his color, but because he professes socialist ideals, not to mention the fact that he's a naive, and incompetent, guppy in a pool filled with really really big sharks. I am a libertarian...for the most part, I don't actually care about what other people do at all...what you smoke, what you drink, who and/or what you marry, what television shows you watch, what languages you speak, which particular Godhead you worship. Race, color, creed, gender, sexual orientation, religion...meh. As long as your actions don't intersect my freedoms, knock yourself out. My beliefs have always been consistent with my actions.
I do care a lot about the "platform" upon which people act. European soft socialism is in the process of collapsing. In fact, cradle-to-grave government has pretty much failed everywhere it has been tried. And yet, here we are.
There's a big difference between "being frightened" and mourning something important that has come to an end.
And sign your name, because if you can't even do that why should anyone bother to take your seriously?
mb, who always signs his name
God bless you Michael Bane and men just like you for standing up for freedom. I am afrad for the United States of America. How do we fight the good fight? The Democrats have the youth and the numbers to accomplish most anything they want, not just for the next 4 years but a long time after that. I am far from being a quitter, just confused.

I can't agree more with you on your positions but what do we do about it? The Europeans are unarmed for the most part is that going to happen here? Just how far will the Supreme Lord & Dictator go with his idea of soft socialism? That is what worries me.

Who is John Galt?
Amen!
What do we do now? We fight. We put our heads together and figure out a way to defeat these SOB's.
Reality will catch up to Obama soon enough and with that will come opportunity...if we are ready.
For the sake of our children and grandchildren we cannot allow ourselves to be the generation that allowed the liberty our ancestors paid for with their blood, to die.
Nightmare scenario? We're living it.
I have been a listener of your teachings for the past few years Michael (listening to your podcasts weekly). When I woke up at 3am on Wednesday to flick the T.V. on to see what the outcome was, I kinda stopped in my tracks, took a deep breath and said... ok we will get through this. Michael, Our CULTURE will get through this, one way or the other! Thank you for everything you do brother. On a postive note; As I type this... My 10 year old son just asked me, "How much ammo can I buy with Five Dollars?" See Michael WE have hope!

Your john galt is Rand paul.. if the republican party dosent pull there heads out of there asses and support this man for 2016 i dont know how much furthur into hell we will descend. i was listing to the enemy airwaves on NPR today.. a lot of talk on gun control.. but what was more disturbing was the republican spokesman who said when asked about 2016, that "we have some viable options, including NJ govener chris christy" WTF!!! chris christy is a scum bag and a gun hater to boot!! the NRA could afford to grow a set of balls as well and support a candidate that truly stands for american values and who would never compremise our liberty for this safety BS!! of any kind. Rand Paul is that man.. im gonna support him any way i can.. there are few good men in high places. i believe he and his father are two of them. -Andrew-

My reply: Ease up, Steve. Benjamin Franklin wrote and published under several different assumed names, including the well-known "Poor Richard" but he had several names that he used. It is a time-honored tradition that goes back to our Nation's greatest men.
Michael - great podcast this week, the kipling was spot on, and have forwarded the poem to a long list of friends. The prepping stuff is the only sane path, and my wife and i will be re-listening to that again with a notebook this weekend. I cried like a baby at the closing piano SSB.. As Rob D said above.. We live in an america that has lost its way. We need to keep fighting, but we need to be prepared to live in our own little lifeboats. There will be riots and looting when the government checks stop, as we see in Greece. That will be when we all live in Rockaway and New Orleans..
None of you seem to get it.
It's done.
It was fun while it lasted, but game over.
There is to large a portion of the country that agrees with the nameless coward,(11:23 AM) so we are reduced to watching the final fall of a once great nation .
The reason the Republicans keep running "moderates" is because an experienced intelligent man (or woman) of principles can not be elected .
If we could not get Barry Goldwater in the 60's you sure as hell will not get Allen West in 2016.
All that is left is to stock up, fort up, and hope to survive the coming economic collapse and it's aftermath.

We don't need your name, or even to know you personally. We know a lot about you, just from your short note to us.
What we also know is that is the racism that you display. We are also scared by your disregard for the rights of others. You constitute the 51% that takes from the other 49%, including their rights. We're all "makers" here. You are all "takers" there. Guess what? I'm folding my hand and stepping out of the game. Now what? Your move. If you're planning on confiscation of wealth next, say so right now. We are anticipating that is where this is all going anyhow. That is change that MOST WILL NOT agree with and as a nation, we will all swing back to "right", not to "the right".
Last, we are all scared of the ignorance that you display. The "first term" has been a dismall failure. The reasons are clear to us. There are no equal and opposite laws of economics that serve the ideology of the "left" and the CONVICTIONS of the "Right". There are no equal and opposite laws of human nature, nor statistics, nor mathematics. There is only one set of rules that work. Ideology does not. We adhere to facts here and what actually works.
Have a nice day. :)

micheal,
thanks for straighting out the anonymous, racist, troll. i don't care about skin colour, which of the nine billion names of god someone worships, or who does what, and with which to whom when the bedroom door is closed. i vote guided by the old vermont freeman's oath, not the passing fancies of the "progressive" leftists. i missed your podcast, and kipling reference, but i've got "the old issue" and "gods of the copybook headings" very much in mind these days, and hoping we will not end with "macdonough's song", "whatsoever, for any cause, seeketh to take or give, power, above and beyond the law, suffer it not to live...".
Michael, You have it right, moving on is what humans always do, the survivors anyway. We bury our dead, grieve, pickup the pieces and move forward.
We buried the last WW II vet in my family this past weekend. In 1942 he was on the ground on Guadalcanal and my father was off shore on a light cruiser. Those were dark times and those guys did not give up... and we won't either.

my 2 cents
in regards to the raciest troll's rantings. he's got the right to his opinion and the right to express it in any way he likes. obviously his team won and he's gonna get paid!
good for him or her?
four more years of free obamaphone
for everyone on fool stamps.
as for us,
were one of the most prepared, most self sufficient and best trained segments of the population. when it comes to who will prosper over the coming years i say it will be us.
stay out of debt and be ready to pounce when hard assets are being sold for pennies on the dollar.
the reset's coming. there's no stopping it. when it comes we'll be forced to live within our means as a country.
the obamaphones will be shut off and people will be forced to adapt or face obstacles in remaining in the gene pool.
WE NEED to fight for more than just the second.
we need to remind our leaders about the rest of them. most importantly the first, fourth & tenth
we survived carter we can survive this buffoon. stick together and stay active locally.
my 2 cents.
also i think RWH from tampa is a robot.
outta control robot with finger stuck on the send key!.. wtf?
