Obama Announces Move on New AWB

Here it comes...as Jim Shepherd and I predicted, Obama administration A.G. Eric Holder announced the Dems will move quickly for a new — and assumably permanent — AWB, this time under the guise of helping Mexico. From ABC News:

The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today.

Attorney General Eric Holder said that the Obama administration will seek to reinstitute the assault weapons ban which expired in 2004 during the Bush administration.

"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters.

Holder said that putting the ban back in place would not only be a positive move by the United States, it would help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico, which is struggling with heavy violence among drug cartels along the border.

"I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum." Holder said at a news conference on the arrest of more than 700 people in a drug enforcement crackdown on Mexican drug cartels operating in the U.S

Since Holderr specifically did not announce a timetable on the new AWB, I'd say this is the first major "float" on the subject. We need to respond big time...let me consult with some friends in the media and industry, and on Monday we'll publish a list of "talking points" for your letters to your representatives in Congress.

I'm going to say this again, however...if you ever plan on owning a semiautomatic rifle buy it now!

Gun Rights in the Age of Obama

here is something truly disturbing about the kind of politician generated in the state of Illinois, and particularly those who call Chicago home. No, I’m not talking about the widespread corruption that sends the elected officials of this state to prison with distressing regularity. I’m talking about the scathing distrust officials have for their citizens — and for the citizens of the rest of the United States.

At this moment, Barack Obama, our neophyte trillion-dollar president, includes as one of his stated policy goals the reinstatement of the laughably ineffective Assault Weapons Ban amid other policies that are not only offensive to gun owners, but also threaten the lives of police officers.

This, of course, is the same Barack Obama who sat on the board of the Joyce Foundation as they cynically attempted to corrupt Second Amendment scholarship, buying law reviews and establishing foundations with the express goal of duping the justices of the Supreme Court of the United States. But Obama’s distrust of those bitter, clingy Americans you call friends and family is hardly unique, and seems to be something deeply ingrained in Illinois Democrats.

An Illinois state representative by the name of Kenneth Dunkin is introducing an even more draconian proposal than Obama’s policies, attempting to make it all but impossible for Illinois citizens to own firearms. It’s an insidious scheme which would force citizens to carry at least $1 million in insurance to own a gun. The plan is being all but ignored in the media, the same media that would be verbally ripping Dunkin’s proposed legislation apart if he proposed that journalists have a million-dollar libel insurance policy before writing a story.

The kicker? There do not seem to be companies offering the kind of insurance Dunkin would require — something Dunkin presumably knew as he wrote his bill, since he is on the Insurance Committee of the Illinois General Assembly.

Thinking strategically, Senate majority leader Harry Reid may decide to keep gun control off the Senate agenda in the next two years. After all, there’s no reason to give McCarthy and her media allies primary ammunition. If Gillibrand has to buckle to McCarthyist pressure in the primary, she will weaken herself in the general election, perhaps ruining the reputation she has worked hard to cultivate as an independent Democrat who doesn’t dance to the tune of the downstate elites.

The Guard had planned a four-day urban military operation in tiny Arcadia, Iowa, population 443, sending troops to take over the town and search door-to-door for a suspected weapons dealer.

Iowans, he explained, typically cooperate with the Guard. The change in plans was based on troop evaluation, he said, not public outcry.

Of course not! And thank you, Americans, for standing up!

Guardsmen to conduct urban training at Arcadia in April

The Carroll National Guard unit will train on urban military operations by holding a four-day exercise at Arcadia.

The purpose of the April 2-5 drill will be to gather intelligence, then search for and apprehend a suspected weapons dealer, according to Sgt. Mike Kots, readiness NCO for Alpha Company.

Citizens, law enforcement, media and other supporters will participate.

Troops will spend Thursday, April 2, staging at a forward operations base at Carroll. The next day company leaders will conduct reconnaissance and begin patrolling the streets of Arcadia to identify possible locations of the weapons dealer.

The primary phase will be done Saturday, April 4, when convoys will be deployed from Carroll to Arcadia. Pictures of the arms dealer will be shown in Arcadia, and soldiers will go door to door asking if residents have seen the suspect.

Soldiers will knock only at households that have agreed to participate in the drill, Kots noted.

"Once credible intelligence has been gathered," said Kots, "portions of the town will be road-blocked and more in-depth searches of homes and vehicles will be conducted in accordance with the residents' wishes.

"One of the techniques we use in today's political environment is cordon and knock," Kots explained. "We ask for the head of the household, get permission to search, then have them open doors and cupboards. The homeowner maintains control. We peer over their shoulder, and the soldier uses the homeowner's body language and position to protect him."

During this phase of the operation, troops will interact with residents and media while implementing crowd-control measures and possibly treating and evacuating injured persons.

The unit will use a Blackhawk helicopter for overhead command and control, and to simulate medevacs.

The drill will culminate in the apprehension of the suspected arms dealer.

Alpha Company will conduct a review of the drill on Sunday, April 5.

A meeting to give residents more information and accept volunteers will be held 7 p.m. Monday, March 2, in the Arcadia American Legion hall.

Kots said the exercise will replace Alpha Company's weekend drill for April.

"We have a lot of extended drills this coming year," he added.

In addition to surveillance, searching and apprehension, the exercise will also give the troops valuable experience in stability, support, patrol, traffic control, vehicle searches and other skills needed for deployment in an urban environment.

"This exercise will improve the real-life operational skills of the unit," said Kots. "And it will hopefully improve the public's understanding of military operations."

The pre-drill work with residents is as important at the drill itself.

"It will be important for us to gain the trust and confidence of the residents of Arcadia," said Kots. "We will need to identify individuals that are willing to assist us in training by allowing us to search their homes and vehicles and to participate in role-playing."

"We really want to get as much information out there as possible, because this operation could be pretty intrusive to the people of Arcadia."

Intrusive? This is the stuff of Nazi Germany, of Stalin's Russia, of Third World Banana Republics. Gain the trust and confidence of the residents? Right, and arbeit macht frei. Look it up if you don't already know what it means.

This is breathtaking in its implications:

• A National Guard unit or local guard is not a law enforcement agency; in fact, members of the National Guard generally only have the power to arrest and detain in a on active duty by direction of the state governor during periods of emergency or civil disorder. "Apprehend a suspected weapons dealer?" I can't even imagine a situation where the National Guard would be so tasked...except in ONE situation, and we'll talk about that later.

• "We ask for the head of the household, get permission to search, then have them open doors and cupboards. The homeowner maintains control." The ACLU has been all over exactly this sort of thing for years. DO NOT EVER EVER EVER AGREE TO ALLOW ANYONE IN YOUR HOUSE WITHOUT A WARRANT!!! That is the difference between America and Bosnia, people. Exercise my butt! This is a TEST RUN!

• They're allegedly searching for a suspect, so they open the doors and cupboards...they're not looking for a person, they're looking for something...

My opinion? This "exercise" is a test run for door-to-door gun confiscation. There is no other way to read it.

A Nation of Cowards

You have to give Attorney General Eric Holder credit...I mean, here is the single most undistinguished person to ever hold the position of AG, a man who spent most of his career as little more than Bill Clinton's sock puppet, one of the few Americans who has set free dedicated terrorists to attack and kill more Americans, and he's telling us we're "a nation of cowards?" This from The Swamp: 

Eric Holder, the nation's first African-American attorney general, addressed the employees of the Justice Department on the occasion of Black History Month today with an assessment that, on matters of race, America remains "essentially a nation of cowards,'' in some ways not much better than it looked 50 years ago.

Look around the shopping mall on a Saturday, he suggested - one of the "race-protected cocoons'' where segregation persists.

Provocative words from the administration of the first African-American president, Barack Obama, one who campaigned not as a black man but as an agent of "change,'' yet who nonetheless presented the United States with an historic test - the election of a black president. During the campaign, Obama directly confronted the question of race with an address calling for fulfillment of that "more perfect union.''

"Though this nation has proudly thought of itself as an ethnic melting pot, in things racial we have always been and I believe continue to be, in too many ways, essentially a nation of cowards," said Holder, a former federal judge whom Obama made the nation's chief law enforcement officer.

"We, as average Americans, simply do not talk enough with each other about race,'' said Holder, urging people of all races to use Black History Month as a platform for honest discussion of racial matters, including disparities in health care, education and income.

Hard to believe, huh? As an average American, I'd love to talk to A.G. Holder about race. Here's what I'd say: "We have a black President...there is one coward in the room, bubba, and it's you. Who arranged for rich boy Marc Rich to walk? Who drafted the paper to release the FALN terrorists, who didn't even ask for pardons? Who has spent his entire second-rate legal career trying to pretend the Second Amendment doesn't exist?" Hope and change...what a load of crap!

OKC officer pulls man over for anti-Obama sign on vehicle

An Oklahoma City police officer wrongly pulled over a man last week and confiscated an anti-President Barack Obama sign the man had on his vehicle.

The officer misinterpreted the sign as threatening, said Capt. Steve McCool, of the Oklahoma City Police Department, and took the sign, which read "Abort Obama, not the unborn."

Chip Harrison said he was driving to work when a police car followed him for several miles and then signaled for him to pull over.

''I pulled over, knowing I hadn't done anything wrong," Harrison said in a recent phone interview.

When the officer asked Harrison if he knew why he had been pulled over, Harrison said he did not.

''They said, 'It's because of the sign in your window,'" Harrison said.

But his run-in with the law wasn't over yet.

''The Secret Service called and said they were at my house," Harrison said.

After talking to his attorney, Harrison went home where he met the Secret Service.

''When I was on my way there, the Secret Service called me and said they weren't going to ransack my house or anything ... they just wanted to (walk through the house) and make sure I wasn't a part of any hate groups."

Tuesday

Went to Cowtown to shoot again. Talked with Mad Dog Too. Gave him the phone number for Michael Bane's assistant. He convinced her that it would be a better location than Ben Avery. The lighting will be best down at the end. He told them to bring an air horn if they needed to quiet the rest of the range for a shot. She said Michael Bane isn't bothered by gunfire.

Mad Dog and I went up to the old Cowtown set, up the hill, which is now a sniper school. The old west town is still there, but fire damaged. We were walking down main street, and a man came walking up main street with a professional camera and a lens about 15" long and 6" in diameter. He told us that he was doing a shoot, and the model was down the street and didn't have many clothes on, and he would prefer we didn't go down there. Mad Dog said nudity didn't embarrass him. The photographer said the model might be embarrassed. I had thoughts I didn't express about how embarrassed. she'd be when the May Penthouse came out. Mad Dog said, "You have a camera. We have guns."

This bothered the photographer, but we turned around and left.

When I got back to the bus there was a series of emails from Michael's assistant ranging from upset to near panic to "talk to Captain Baylor" to thanks for getting Mad Dog involved and arranging Cowtown. She'd looked at the pictures on the web and thought it would be a better place anyway.

Indeed, with saguaros and mesquite and the like all around, it probably is a better place.

Went to dinner at Tex Az for chicken fried steak with Mad Dog and friends.

Thanks for sorting it out, Cap'n. The least you could have done was tell the nice lady to stay until we can get to Phoenix with video cameras!  

First Blow Getting Closer

MY CRYSTAL BALL ON GUN CONTROL

Swami Evan looks into his crystal ball and what does he see as the most immediate threat to gun owners? It is NOT the anti-gunners "dancing in blood" of Blair Holt to push for national gun licensing and other extreme measures. It is NOT the renewal of the failed 1994 Assault Weapon Ban. It is NOT even the McCain-backed "Gun Show Loophole" fix. Although any or all of these might eventually be a fight, the real, immediate risk is an Executive Order "Gun Ban" by Obama.

On Thursday, February 12, Congressman Eliot Engel, Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere, wrote a letter signed by 53 Members of Congress urging President Obama to "return to enforcement of the law banning imports of assault weapons, which was previously enforced during the administrations of Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton." The signings were led by Congressman Michael Castle (R-DE) and Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY)... Engel added that returning to enforcement of the imported assault weapons ban is "a no-brainer that would require no legislative action ... We ask that you direct ATF to act in accordance with the 1968 Gun Control Act and return to enforcing the ban on the import of all assault weapons, both those that are fully manufactured abroad as well as those imported as parts." 

This is a "no-brainer" for Obama and I believe he will do it shortly. Here is why:

1) No legislative action required, so no legislator has to stand up and be counted. They all get political cover.

2) The 53 congresscritters who signed the letter can proudly boast of it to their constituents.

3) There is REPUBLICAN precedent for this, thanks to BUSH 41.

4) It addresses the recent Mexico-getting-US-guns farce.

5) It plays into the ATF's misleading statistics on gun traces and so-called crime guns.

6) It makes believe he is doing something about crime and mass shootings.

7) It actually helps domestic producers by cutting out cheaper imported parts guns. (Not that that would be a reason Obama would like it, but it is a reason the domestic makers are not going to squawk about it.)

I hope I'm wrong, but I bet I'm right. So, stock up now on Eastern Bloc goodies, they won't last long.

I've been predicting this since before the election, and I have advised my consulting clients who use imported parts (such as magazines) to have a contingency plan should an Executive Order like this come to pass.

Lawmakers: US must enforce assault-gun import ban

MEXICO CITY (AP) — More than 50 U.S. lawmakers sent a letter to President Barack Obama urging him to enforce a ban on importing assault weapons, saying many such guns are later smuggled south to arm Mexico's ruthless drug cartels.

"They come to the United States from Europe and other places, and they make their way down to Mexico," Rep. Eliot Engel, a New York Democrat, told reporters in Mexico City on Wednesday.

The ban was implemented under the administrations of President George H.W. Bush and President Bill Clinton, and the U.S. government can enforce it under provisions of the 1968 Gun Control Act.

But the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, or ATF, has quietly abandoned the ban in recent years, the lawmakers said in their letter. The ATF declined to comment.

"As a result, the civilian firearms market is flooded with imported, inexpensive military-style assault weapons from primarily former Eastern bloc countries including Romania, Bulgaria and the former Yugoslavia," the letter said.

All 53 lawmakers who signed were Democrats.

The ATF estimates that 90 percent of weapons seized in Mexico come from sources within the United States. Mexico has long demanded that the U.S. do more to stop the flow of weapons south, and Obama has pledged to step up those efforts. Congress included $10 million in the economic stimulus package approved last week for the ATF's Project Gunrunner, which targets gun-trafficking networks in the U.S.

Bane Reveals NO Steroid Use or In-Vitro Fertilization!

Back from a quickie vacation in Florida...mostly at a National Speakers Association convention in Mickey Mouse World (which did, yes, creep me out), so I thought I should come back strong with a stirring denial of...something. So, yes, I am clean and very un-pregnant...nor do I own a chimpanzee, I might add. I have been called a chimpanzee...but never mind.

I don't think I missed anything major, say, the nationalization of another industry; the Internet is full of various chaff, but that's always the case. Big chunks of the sky are still landing in my front yard. And a woman in Pennsylvania will stand trial for selling "Gothic kittens" with pierced ears, necks and tails. I'm seeing a trend!

Slow Blogging Alert!

Been crazy busy, and it'll probably continue through the weekend...sorry! Here's today's dose of bad news, though, from my pal Jim Shepherd: 

Despite the fact that tomorrow's supposed to be the day to show love and affection, it looks like Canadian firearms enthusiasts aren't much in love with parts of the government right now.

The reason? A report making the rounds in Canada that says officials have it on "good authority" that our State Department may be on the verge of cutting off all imports of certain calibers of ammunition.

Ammos listed for this rumored ban include the .50BMG, 7.62x39mm Soviet, 7.62x51mm NATO, .308 Winchester, 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington. Additionally, we're hearing that an expansion of this proposed ban might be broadened to include the 6.8mm SPC, 9mm Parabellum, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP- among others.

In other words, State Department officials may be floating a trial balloon to see if there are howls of protest, or whimpers of compliance. Canadian elected officials who have directed this information to me say the move seems to be motivated by "emboldened" anti-gun officials who think they have a kindred spirit in President Obama.

Additionally, Canadian officials tell me they are hearing rumblings of blanket export bans on certain firearms to Canada and the attachment of DSP-83 End Use Certificates (with their $250 Export Fee) attached to all other types of American firearms.

Should that happen, opposition leaders remind Canadian firearms owners, it will not affect European Union imports. Firearms and ammo exported from Europe would be unaffected- and certainly at far more appealing prices than comparable U-S firearms. In effect, the State Department would be hammering gun manufacturers, distributors and exporters in the United States while simultaneously making firearms -and ammunition - ownership and acquisition more difficult for Canadians. To antigun politicians, this must smell like roses. To pro-gun politicians in Canada, it smells fishy, and they're trying to drum up awareness on both sides of the border because it is "still being fought and the battle isn't over yet."

But it looks like an indirect campaign against firearms and ammo may have already begun.

Another Front Opens in Our War

The Second Circuit rules (again) that the Second Amendment does not apply to the states...from Reason:

The Second Amendment guarantee of the right to bear arms does not apply to override state firearms bans, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit declared Jan. 28. Under the incorporation doctrine, only certain provisions of the Bill of Rights apply to the states, and the Second Amendment is one of those that does not, the Second Circuit held..

Safe Choices...

Fair question...why did I choose Liberty Safes?

It's one of those "wisdom of crowds"...things. Out of the hundreds of emails I received in the wake of the problems I had with my Cannon Safe, more of you guys overwhelmingly recommended Liberty Safes than any other brand. It wasn't even close, either. At least one person who had had trouble initially with his Liberty lock still unconditionally recommended Liberty because of the high quality of their customer service, "and I called 'em some ugly names, too!"

I had originally talked about Ft. Knox because I wanted a product made in the United States; the Liberty Lincoln Safe I chose was made in Utah, which is still part of the United States for a little longer. I talked to Liberty Safes' head honcho Jeff Talley about manufacturing practices, and it was impressive. I plan to take him up on his offer to visit the plant and look at their world-class manufacturing processes.

The Lincoln is not top-of-the-line, but it's above the middle. One of the things that I wanted was locking lugs on all four sides (14 1.25-inch lugs in all for the model I chose, this year 33% longer). I also wanted enhanced fire protection, because I live in a red-lined wildfire zone and fire is a reality for all of us up here. I'm sure you can see on the Liberty site that a Lincoln-level safe survived the 2007 California wildfires.

I won't lie to you — there are promotional considerations involved. But I made my choice decision first, then began talking to Liberty (and only to Liberty). Plus Jeff and the guys at Liberty understand that if I have problems with the new safe, they will be public problems. The good and the bad get reported together.

BTW, my Cannon now has a new S&G mechanical lock, courtesy of Aaron Baker, president of Cannon Safes. Cannon provided the lock free of charge (and without my asking them to); I paid only the amazingly low labor charge of $140 to John at Guardian Angel Lock & Security in Centennial, CO. John was great...he arrived precisely on time and stepped me though the whole process, showing me how the insides of a safe work. I feel much better about that safe now.

RE: Shipping on the Lipsey's .44 Specials, I believe they're going out in small lots right now...can't wait to get mine!

Saturday in the Basement

Today's a work-in-the-basement homeowner day. Also, the locksmith is coming up from Denver to install a boring, old-skool mechanical lock on my gun safe, which admittedly has worked fine since I took the lock apart and Radio Shack'ed the circuit board. That safe will move into the secondary role when the new Liberty safe — with a mechanical lock, natch — is delivered in the next couple of weeks.

I was swamped this week working on TBD: SURVIVAL, which will go into production next month for a July 1 premier. I'm now pretty comfortable with the format and have a good start on filling in the subject grid. Pincus and Janich are on board for this one as well. I'm also very excited about SG2, a new spinoff show from SHOOTING GALLERY that focuses more on rock and roll, so to speak. You'll see that show July 2010. Hoping for a clone to be delivered any minute now...

I ordered a couple of the Lipsey's special run Ruger Blackhawks in .44 Special yesterday. I have to say that these .44s, built on the smaller 50th Anniversary Blackhawk frames, may well be the ultimate single action revolver. A lot of his, probably starting with Skeeter Skelton and fueled by (my friend) the great John Taffin, have spent a bunch of money with people like Hamilton Bowen (shown below; click on the image for a big 'un!) and Dave Clements converting old 3-Screw and Flat-Top Rugers to .44 Specials. I have a .44 3-Screw from Hamilton and a magnificent restored 1950s-vintage Flat-Top .357 from Dave. I'm thinking the new .44s will become my cowboy action shooting main match guns...yeah, I won't be able to run with the whiz kids and their reduced load .38s, but I'll be cooler!

And as a benefit, I have a new holster rig from Nick Asadi at Tombstone Leather Products made for my 5oth Anniversary .357 Blackhawks, so the ,44s should fit just fine.

If you don;t have a single action revolver and think you might like to try one, I heartily recommend the .44 Specials! So would Skeeter.

I read this morning that our Fearless Leader says unless we all get down on our knees and perform a Clinton-certified act upon every cheesy Democratic lobbying group, the United States is finished, kaput, stone dead, deceased, no more, ceased to be, expired, gone to meet its maker, pushing up daisies, shuffled off its mortal coil, kicked the bucked, joined the invisible choir, bleedin' demised!

Wow! And I thought some of my survival buddies were scary! As I understand it, unless we give ACORN, an organization that has in the past sought to compromise the election process, $4 billion of my money, we're all gonna be sewing burkhas in the town square and begging for alms.

Anyhow, I thought I'd show you a little window on the world Hope-And-Change Hussein has in mind for all of us. There's a big crisis in Australia — journalist, whose weaselness knows no national boundaries, discovered ONE REPLICA AK-47 for sale!  

A REPLICA of an assault rifle often seen with images of the world's most wanted man – Osama bin Laden – is being sold at a western suburbs pawn shop.

The replica AK-47 yesterday was for sale at a pawnbroker on Findon Rd, Findon, for $880.

Under South Australian law, it is not illegal for businesses to sell replica weapons but the incident has sparked calls from anti-gun activists for a national ban on the sale of replica guns.

AK-47s are used throughout the world and have been described as the "consecrated Taliban weapon".

In several of his video messages distributed to the world, bin Laden, the mastermind of the September 11, 2001, attacks has been filmed holding an AK-47.

Gun Control Australia president John Crook told The Advertiser yesterday selling such replicas put out a "shocking message".

"Weapons such as this, which is essentially what it is, create fear and apprehension in the community and the police should intervene and confiscate the gun immediately," he said.

Wow...fear run rampant! I pray the people of Australia can weather this crisis. I would like to point out, mate,  that on a dollar to dollar swap, you could get a Krebs custom AK-47 here in what's left of the Free World.

Former First Duck Hunter Unlimbers His...Mouth

This Bill Clinton quote — you remember him, the guy just elected for his 3rd term as President? — from Sebastian at Snowflakes in Hell: 

Nobody wants to repeal the Second Amendment, and nobody wants to keep you out of the deer woods, but wouldn’t it be nice if your children didn’t have to worry about being mowed down by an assault weapon when they turn the corner?

Bubba's always had a fundamental misunderstanding of what the Second Amendment was actually about. Still, I think Glenn Reynold's comment on his InstaPundit sums it up well:

 Actually, I’d be more worried about my daughter if she were in Bill Clinton’s company. And, statistically, with a lot more reason...

Bill Wilson's New Blaster

I've been meaning to post this, but my friend Charles Riggs over at Bloggo did a better job, so I'm just cribbing his:

So Bill is running a contest on their web site where you can suggest a name for the pistol and if your entry is selected you win one. Such a deal!

When I first found out about this I contacted Bill to get more info about the gun, since there weren't any specs on the web page, just a nice photo of what appeared to be a slick polymer 1911. I was curious to know if it was intended as a replacement for the KZ45 polymer framed .45 ACP that they sell. I reviewed a KZ45 a few years ago in an article in a Harris magazines publication. I took it with me to Gunsite for the GAS (Gunsite alumni shoot) and I liked it so much that I bought it after the review was done. While I was very positive about the one that I T&E'd, the gun hasn't been a big seller for Wilson Combat and has received mixed reviews in various quarters. It's a shame, because despite being a double stack it fits my hand well, more like a Browning Hi-Power than a 1911. 

It's also lightweight and gives you 10+1 rounds in the gun while incorporating all the major attributes of the classic 1911 platform in the design. If the one you have runs right, it's a fine pistol.

So the question was, is this the gun to replace the KZ45? I fired off a quick email and these are the answers that I got back from Bill.

First, it's a double stack pistol but it's chambered in 9X19mm, not .45 ACP. It has a magazine that's a completely new design and has a capacity of 17 rounds. The slide is narrower and lighter than a traditional 1911. The lock-up barrel-to-slide is like that of a Sig, but it retains the swinging link of the 1911 design. The frame is a new design and is made in the USA, unlike the KZ45 which is made under contract for Wilson Combat in the Republic of South Africa. (I forgot to ask whether this one is made of Kevlar and Zytel like the KZ45 is, so I'll have to get back to you on that.) The frame is smaller in diameter than the KZ45, which should make the folks who like slim guns happy.

Read the whole thing. Go to Bill's website to come up with a name for the new blaster. I always liked the KZ45...I thought it shot a lot better than people gave it credit for. His ADP is the absolute best of the breed little 9mm.

I think I would call the little gun Alice. Like "through the looking glass..."

And that is why I don't name guns!

Save Wesley Snipes!

Internet pressure is growing on President Barack "Hope-And-Change-Hussein" Obama to choose action actor Wesley Snipes for a Cabinet-level position. Snipes was sentenced to 3 years for tax evasion in 2008. Through his roles in Blade and White Men Can't Jump, Snipes has proven himself more competent than any of Hope-And-Change-Hussein's choices to date, and his tax problems make him perfect for the Cabinet!

BTW, my friend Jim Rawles' excellent novel Patriots: Surviving the Coming Collapse has cracked the elite top 1000 books at Amazon, amazing for a self-published book. Definitely buy the book before ole Hope-And-Change Hussein gets around to banning books. Good read, and great information.

Finally, some good news:

Endless Winter Wind...

...got my butt blown down this AM while wrangling the garbage down the ski slope that passes as my driveway! Worst part of winter up high is the wind wind wind blasting down from the Divide. Yeech!

Later today I'm going to start photographing the Spike's Tactical AR-15 rifle and 9mm pistol that arrived last week. They are masterpieces, so be prepared to drool. Also got my G26 baby Glock end of last week. Cute as a button!

RE: Michael Steele...I took my own advice and sent a letter to the RNC asking for a sit-down interview with Mr. Steele because if we in the gun culture are going to support the Republicans, we need some level of comfort with who's running the store. I do not agree with those who say, hey, he's got some interesting ideas, let's see how he does. My experience has been that people, even politicians, generally say what they mean during those few unguarded moments. 

As a more or less libertarian, the majority positions on both parties makes me slightly ill. We all came to the Great Reagan Tent with the understanding that everyone in the tent would support, or at least remain neutral, on other groups' core issues. So I swallow my revulsion on so many issues because being in the Tent means support for my core issues. 

If the Tent has indeed collapsed, then we need to start adapting to the new landscape.

I stumbled across this quote from the movie Defiance, which I have not seen. I thought it was apt, all things considered.

If you do not have an AR, an AK  a Mini-14 or any other semiauto rifle, 10 magazines for that rifle and at least 1000 rounds of suitable ammunition, by all means make your plans to obtain them ASAP! 

Republicans Sell Us Out...Again!

So Michael Steele is the new head of the disoriented, destroyed, debunked Republican Party. And what does he have to say about the issues that's #1 on our gun rights radar? This from the Examiner:

Q: Should people have access to buy assault weapons?

A: Society should draw lines. What do you need an assault weapon for, if you're going hunting? That's overkill. But I don't think that means you go to a total ban for those who want to use gun for skeet shooting or hunting or things like that But what's the point of passing gun laws if we're not going to enforce them? If you want to talk about gun control, that's where you need to start. We've got 300 gun laws on the books right now. At the end of the day, it's about how we enforce the law.

Yep, we're out there all alone again...I was going to write something a lot more harsh, but instead I think I'm going to reach out to Steele and see if I maybe salvage something here.
