A new cable television show is coming this fall, Bane Essentials. Hosted by Michael Bane, author, producer, television host, outdoorsman, competitor and shooter. Each week Michael Bane will cover the essentials in food, wine, movie reviews, shooting sports, firearms and more.
Whether it is rack-of-lamb from a four star restaurant or cock-pot white fish, Bane Essentials covers it all, from re-loading big bore ammunition to selecting that perfect compensator, to discussions of why the Second Amendment does matter. Watch for this exciting new show this fall on a cable network near you...LOL! That'd be a fun show to do. Tonight I tinkered together a recipe for all the leftover frozen white fish I had in the freezer. Using the clay cazuela, I spread about a teaspoon of really good olive oil on the bottom of the cazuela. Then I added a large can of fire-roasted crushed tomatoes, Anaheim peppers sliced very thin, sliced portobello mushrooms, half a jar of drained capers and about 2 tablespoons of chopped garlic. Cover with foil, place in a cool oven and set the temp at 350...cook for 30 minutes.
In the meantime, rub the fish with a bit of olive oil, salt, pepper and Spanish smoked paprika. Wipe off the excess. Take the cazuela out of the oven after 30 minutes and add the fish...cook for an additional 10-15 minutes, depending on the fish. Salt and pepper to taste. BTW, the tomato sauce would be drop dead over pasta! Maybe add some grated Romano.
I served it with a green salad and classic Maria's heart of gold margaritas (Corazon Reposada tequila, Cointreau orange liquer and fresh-squeezed lemon juice).
Sorry, no pictures!
So now that I've done food, a quickie rant...
Today Alf the Wonder Beagle was attacked for the the 3rd time in 6 months, this time a huge German Shepherd — OFF LEASH, OF COURSE — with a muzzle on. It tried to knock down Alf, and you could hear it's jaws snapping as it tried to claw off the muzzle and bite my leg. I once saw a malamute claw off a muzzle.
I AM FRIGGIN' FED UP WITH THESE JACKASSES!
Starting tomorrow, the Standard Dog-Walking Gun is a Taurus Judge loaded with loaded with 3 Winchester PDX-1s and 2 .45 Colt Corbon DPXs.
i own a pit bull/rottweiler mix, raised him from a puppy napping in my lap. he's fixed to reduce aggression, and when he's outdoors he's never off a leash. he's a good sized dog, but trained to be a gentleman. i firmly agree with you about jackasses who let aggressive dogs run off leash, its a dammed shame though, that the dog will pay the price for the owner's arrogant stupidity, but your own dog has a right to expect you to defend him as part of the family. if my "ranger" could speak human language i think he would agree.
ReplyDeleteYou are looking for a lawsuit and criminal charges. Your blog post is now evidence of prior intent to do harm; damage the private property of others. And, if you use a gun, you could very well lose your carry permit and you might well become a prohibited person. Anger is never a good reason to discharge a firearm when your own life is not in danger. You do a disservice to the entire firearms community with this blog post. Angry, irrational, irresponsible. and you wonder why Colorado just passed those laws?
ReplyDeleteHey Gun Rigits Proponent,
ReplyDeleteJust for your information, irresponsible dog owners do more damage to their breeds than the people trying to get away from them. I had a similar incendent years ago with two pit bulls who started to come after my two dogs. My dogs were leashed and of course the pits were not. I yelled to the two guys who had them I'd kill them if they attaked my dogs and they RAN to get them. They knew I meant business by the pistol in my hand.
By the way, I own 11 dogs who I train, work, & compete in trials, and help tend the farm. They are a big part of my life. I take dog ownership very seriously and the people like Michael describes who own those dogs ARE the problem!

Michael,
ReplyDeleteWould less than lethal measures be a better option?
Do you carry pepper spray? What happens if you kill the dog and then are confronted by an angry agressive owner? I guess at least you're not a retired teacher carrying a 10mm. The jury may go easier on you. How would this situation be handled on Best Defense?
Colorado Sheriff Refuses to Enforce State Gun Laws

Weld County Sheriff John Cooke said he won't enforce either gun-control measure waiting to be signed into law by Gov. John Hickenlooper, saying the laws are "unenforceable" and would "give a false sense of security."

What is it with you and aggressive dogs? Seems like the only time you have to deal with a threat is when it comes from some douche nozzle's 4 legged counterpart.
ReplyDeletehey, GRP,
ReplyDeleteguns are to be used for DEFENSE. all you need is to be reasonably in fear of harm. and if you stick yourself in the middle of a dogfight, you're going to get harmed.
so, if ventilating the german shepherd is the way to protect yourself, then cool - and legal.
and i'm sure bane has a good attack-lawyer on speed dial.
Methinks Mr. "Gun Rights Proponent" is probably a shill, given the job of shadowing certain civil-rights activists who have....DISPLEASED.... the powers that be currently in fair Colorado, and whose paychecks bear the signature 'Bloomberg'.
ReplyDeletePlease watch yer back, Mike. You've done enough to be in some jackinape's cross-hairs. We need ya. BE SAFE OUT THERE!
That Judge loadout should do the trick.
ReplyDeleteGRP brings up a point. You would "damage the private property of others." So I guess you just bend over and smile when it comes to the damage of your own property.
{eyeroll}
When the dog owner is breaking the law, has the Sheriff shared any insights as to what his dept will do when the call is made post-ventilation?
I am the one that posted the comments earlier this AM about Michael's irresponsible blog post. You can call me a shill, but that just confirms that you don't know me. I'm no shill for the anti-gunners but Michael Bane sure is if he posts stuff that confirms that he is just another angry old white guy who is walking around thinking that his guns are his way out of every problem that life throws at him. And, with his blog post, he has demonstrated for the world to see that he is just itching to shoot someone or something. He is purposely trying to kill someone's dog. You think that is a good image for a high profile "gun rights" so called "leader" to be putting on the Internet??? He damages our cause, immensely if the Democrats see his blog post and make it public. How many people in Colorado or across the country do you think are going to choose Michael Bane's gun rights over their dog's safety? Get real. Wake up. We can't have people like Bane acting like irrational, angry, unTRUSTWORTHY people who are proving the anti-gunners' points that there should be limits to who can carry and what they can carry. Wake up, people. Bane hurts our cause.
ReplyDeleteWatch the video 'Edged Weapons' sometime. One of the points that the producers make is that a large dog is carrying a mouth full of edged weapons around with him everywhere he goes. The idea that an aggressive large dog cannot cause damage is as ludicrous as the idea that a responsible gun owner cannot protect himself, his loved ones and his own leashed dog from that threat. I live in a small southern Utah community where a large proportion of dog owners fall into the negligent category. Yes, I am armed. Yes, I would shoot an attacking dog without hesitation if I felt that I, my wife or my young Black Lab were in immediate danger of death of great bodily injury. You may make of that what you will. I am also a retired, 24 year veteran police officer and I do know the law. It falls squarely on the side of the attacked party and against the aggressive dog and it's owners. Most (many? all?) animal control agencies and their department/community organizations still have dangerous dog euthanasia policies on record. There's a reason for that. Dangerous dogs are, well...dangerous.
DeleteMister Bane not only does not damage our cause with this post he reminds us once again why we carry in the first place. Personal defense against predators both two legged and four. Words to live by sir.
To Mr. Gun Rights Proponent...
ReplyDeleteI have no idea who you are or where you live. However where I live, if some animal, dog, wolf, dinosaur, whatever, attacks you or your own then you have the right to blow it to kingdom come.
Expressing the intent to defend ones self is not grounds for any such BS you have presented. From where I sit you are mistaken.
Hey Gun Rights Proponent,
ReplyDeleteJust so you know, here in Maine, a dog is considered a lethal weapon when it shows aggression towards others. You are legally protected here, both civilly and criminally if an unleashed, free-roaming dog attacks you or your dog and you have to shoot it. I'd take no pride in the action, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna watch an unleashed, free roaming dog attack my dog without provocation. More than likely my Colt 1903 is going to speak up with some .32 ACP bites of its own. Say what you will, but if you do not keep your dog leashed up, don't blame others when it goes around doing what it pleases.
