Meanwhile, Back at the Bunker

Home after a week in New Hamster at Sig Sauer filming GUN STORIES WITH JOE MANTEGNA. We also did some planning for SHOOTING GALLERY and THE BEST DEFENSE. I was amazed at the growth of the Sig Sauer Academy! My old friend Adam Painchaud, who's Senior Director at the Academy, took us on a grand tour…WOW! I can't wait to take a class (or three or four) there! Go to the website and page through their course offerings. While we were there a defensive 3-gun class and a rifle CQB class were running, and I would have loved to jump into either of those.

I was also really impressed with Sig's overall strategies…I'm going to be talking about that on this week's DOWN RANGE Radio.

Monday I am ordering an MCX .300 Blackout pistol and will immediately put the SBR papers in for it. As soon as ht paper clears I'll add one of the excellent SAS stocks. The long term plan is to run it suppressed with a mid-length handguard. I'm also going to suck it up and buy a 320 9mm, probably the Carry version with a threaded barrel.
They do have fiercely good triggers.

I just bought my first Sig Sauer. I almost jumped-in when they first started mass-marketing their "226" in the last century, but went with Smith & Wesson's 3rd-gen's. I'm not disappointed with the Smith's.

So, fast-forward to a couple of months ago. I wanted to buy some replacement parts for my Colt 1911's. I went to colt's site, repeatedly, I might add, and found that you had to "register" to buy something, so I did, repeatedly I might also add, but found each time, that I could not buy anything! Nothing would go through! Now, for a guy like me, that has been absolutely loyal to Colt, that is a VERY BIG disappointment. I proudly own more Colt 1911's than most people, all of which have been great, with the exception of one that had a "no clean-up" on the frame rail section. It has residual rough-cut machining marks. It does still shoots very well, perhaps due alone to the tight barrel-to-slide lock-up. It will probably wear-out faster though, as the bearing area of that section is reduced. (I complained to Colt.)

In any case, I decided that maybe Colt deserves to go belly-up, as they have been on the bring of doing for a loooooong time.

Now, to my Sig': I decided to buy a Sig' 1911, with all of their built-in features. I bought a "1911-TCO-SSS". That stands for a "Commander-length barrel on an "Officer's" frame; all stainless. What a sweet little "hammer". I am going to do the usual break-in cycle this week, so watch for my eval'.

    Goodbye Colt! Hello Sig'!

  3. Picked up a P320C (compact) in the 9mm FDE version in February...it is a nice shooting handgun...had to get the Large grip to fit my mits better so now it's a "Black-N-Tan" version.
