DEFCON-1

Do I need to say more?

Be armed; be ready; be aware, my friends...

    I've resisted getting a carry permit, as my higher ed employer has a "no weapons" policy, but I'm planning to rectify my behavior next week. I do wish my subaru hatchback had a better storage compartment for a "trunk gun" though.

  2. As a fellow educator, I feel your pain. However we only spend about a third of our time in forced vulnerability. We owe it to our families, ourselves and our country to be prepared when we can. Consider a steel box for your trunk gun.

    ....and unless your schools run you thru metal detectors, my friends, I'd seriously consider something small and noisy in a pocket holster. Schools are target-rich environments, you can get another job as long as your breathing. In fact, if you stop a mass shooting, KEEPING your job could be as simple as pointing.out the bad publicity if you were sacked, FOR SAVING LIVES. Some thing to consider, teach. Best of luck to both in any case.
    And Micheal, after following the news all afternoon and evening, and being a pod person who took in all your thoughts after Paris, all I can think is;
    It must really SUCK to be Right, doesn't it?

    I, too, work at a university with a similar "no weapons" policy regarding firearms. But that doesn't mean that your employer's policy applies to the rest of your life. Get your carry permit, get quality training in self-defense fighting with a gun, diligently study your state's carry law and carry.
    At work, I've lost count how many of my colleagues have clips in the corner of their pants pockets or pepper spray on their key chains. While your institution my prevent you from having the most effective tool close at hand, you have other options at your disposal.
