DooubleStar and Spike's Stand!

UPDATE: Here's the complete list of companies who has chosen to stand (PS: Thank you, Mr. Potterfield!).

The movement is growing! Two of my great, great friends in the industry, DoubleStar and Spike's Tactical, have stepped up. This from DoubleStar:
Effective Immediately!!
Due to the recent changes in 2nd Amendment laws that are pending or currently enforced by states across the country, the J&T Family of Companies which includes J&T Distributing, DoubleStar Corp., Ace Limited, and the DoubleStar Training Academy has been forced to reassess our policies regarding government and law enforcement sales.
Effective immediately, the J&T Family of Companies will be joining other manufacturers and distributors by ceasing sales of regulated items in states that have altered the rights of citizens to keep and bear arms . . .
The JTFOC will no longer sell prohibited items to law enforcement agencies or any government agencies in states, counties, cities, and municipalities that have enacted restrictive gun control laws against their law abiding citizens. We hope other companies will join us with their support. We applaud those already involved with this effort to protect our 2nd Amendment rights.
Be Victorious
 From Spike's:
Updated Policy for State and Local Law Enforcement Agency Sales:
In light of the recent and numerous anti-gun and anti-2nd Amendment laws pending across the Nation, Spike’s Tactical will be joining other manufacturers and distributors and limiting the business we do in states that have limited the right to keep and bear arms for their citizens . . .
As of today, it will be our policy not to sell prohibited items to law enforcement agencies, government agencies and agents in states, counties, cities and municipalities that have enacted restrictive gun control laws against their citizens. We urge other companies to join in support.

To my good friends Nick Collier at DoubleStar and Mike "Spike" Register at Spike's, we behind enemy lines in Colorado salute you!

i sense a movement beginning.

i think we as shooters should ask ourselves.

who might we be doing business with?
do they represent my values?

are they price gouging during this current run?

adjust accordingly, everyone understands $$$$$$$$

Michael,

This is great news and very encouraging. I know that some companies have existing contracts which they must honor, but let's encourage every company in the industry to follow Spike and Doublestar and Barrett's good example on every sale from this. Point. Forward. Firearms companies and ammunition companies, big and small alike - it's a great way to leverage our message onto those who hate us, would see us disarmed (except for double-barreled shotguns, of course), and who haven't listened to logic, constitutional arguments, reason, etc.

Michael, please use your considerable connections and influence inside the industry to spread this idea because I'm sure you can make a big difference.

-Justin

PS: Love the podcast!

Might want to fix the spelling, Michael ("Dooublestar"). Glad to see these two outfits stepping up and doing the right thing. If more and more companies join forces, this will make a huge difference. There should be a name for this movement, a logo/creed, and a pledge of sorts -- for all participating companies to adopt (and post on their websites, literature, et cetera).

Great to see the support growing, but I am interested to see what the "Big Five" (Ruger, Smith & Wesson, Glock, Sig Sauer & Springfield Armory) do. I suspect the public companies will be beholding to their investors and will not follow suit.

@Air Wolfe -- I believe they would be doing their shareholders a disservice not to join the likes of LaRue, DoubleStar, MidwayUSA, and Spikes. Their policy should be simple, the state/county/city law applies to all with that address regardless of affiliation.

I know that my purchase decisions will be guided by who the manufactures and distributors sell to. I doubt I'm the only one.

J&G Sales is also following a similar policy. They sent an e mail to customers yesterday.

yep, i have the same question that AIRWOLF has----will the BIG BOYS take a stand? Glock and S&W have a big stake here with the POE-LEESE departments...

All the more for H&K.

If the big (publicly held) manufacturers do not take a stand, I will certainly withhold my future business from them, encouraging others to do likewise...

Not taking any credit. Just saying great minds think alike... http://www.downrange.tv/forum/index.php?topic=21819.0

Glad to see it happening!

Actually, it's a Two Part Problem. Part A is to ban sales to those Gooberment Agencies that work for those States that have Voted to Destroy the RKBA. But Part B has been a Problem to me for years. How many of the "Big Boys" have Factories in those States where the Citizens of those States can't purchase their Products?

Think of Smith and Wesson making "Massachusetts Legal Firearms", or Ruger in Connecticut, or Remington in New York. How many of them have been paying State Taxes for years to the very Politicians who are now trying to put them out of Business and dry up the Supply? Millions of Dollars have to be flowing into those State's Capitals, and that money is being used to pay those Politician's Salaries, their Staffs, the State Police and Attorney Generals who will be tasked to enforce those Laws.

They all need to pull out like Magpul, or else we need to Boycott them, not just for their LEO Sales alone.

I'm sorry, but from now on, my money is going to those Companies that do their work in Free States ONLY. I'm NOT donating to the "Danegeld Fund."

The publicly-traded companies have a fiduciary responsibility to their shareholders to maximize profits.

For their Boards of Directors to unilaterally refuse business would hurt the value of the stocks held by the owners of the company, the stockholders, and I believe they could be held civilly liable.

The decision to not do business with their largest customers needs to be made by a vote of those stockholders, particularly if contractual obligations are involved.

I can only hope those stockholders are contacting their Directors expressing their wilingness to vote to take a monetary hit to act on their consciences.

Mathew:

There may not be much, if any, profit when selling to police depts. I've heard that they do this because it convinces a lot of people to buy their products. Pure marketing.
Glock seems to do well by getting their old guns back in trade for their new ones, then selling them on the open market.

Remember, sales of handguns to police are a small percentage of the overall market here in the US.

Finally, this is what I said 4 years ago. If the manufactures all said no to military and law enforcement then the government will have to re think their positions.

Good news for you my friend Michael - I suggest you take them up on it:

From Magpul's Facebook page:

"We are proud to announce that within a matter of days we will be going live with a new program. Due to a bill currently moving through the Colorado legislature, there is the possibility that Colorado residents' ability to purchase standard capacity magazines will soon be infringed. Before that happens, and Magpul is forced to leave the state in order to keep to our principles, we will be doing our best to get standard capacity PMAGs into the hands of any Colorado resident that wants them.

Verified Colorado residents will be able to purchase up to ten (10) standard capacity AR/M4 magazines directly from Magpul, and will be given immediate flat-rate $5 shipping, bypassing our current order queue.

Our customers outside of Colorado, please know that our PMAG production will continue at an ever-increasing rate until we do relocate, shipments to our distributors in other states will continue, and that we do not expect relocation to significantly impact PMAG production. We are also aware that Colorado is not the only state with existing or pending magazine capacity restrictions; we are working on programs for other affected states as well.

Full details and instructions will be announced when we are able to go live; please watch here for the coming announcement."
