I bring this up because I think the gun control "movement" in the United States is now on life support, and it's staunchest adherents are panicking. The twin blows of Paris and San Bernardino have literally shattered the hoary catechisms of the religion that bills itself as "gun safety," "gun control," "common sense gun laws," and the other apocrypha. So they've decided to roll the dice.
The false smiling faces, the assurances of, "Of course we believe in the Second Amendment;" "It's time we had a serious discussion abut guns in America;" "These are just common sense laws that even gun owners agree with;" "Of course we don't want to take your guns…" all gone now. All that's left is reality, the smiling death's head of fascism.
From the New York Times, the Pravda of the progressive elite, to the whack jobs around the fringes like HuffPo:
Given that even micro gun control measures will be effectively blocked by the NRA and its allies, and that promoting mini measures as potentially effective is misleading, progressives may as well go for the big enchilada: Call for domestic disarmament.
NO MORE MINCING WORDS…THE ONLY ISSUE ON THE TABLE IS DOOR-TO-DOOR CONFISCATION OF ALL GUNS IN AMERICA.
Rich Lowry notes that self-righteousness is liberating:
The same people who are most exercised about guns in America, and want to ban and even confiscate entire categories of firearms, know little about them and evidently feel no inclination to learn.
I'll go a step beyond my friend Rich.To me, it seems like there's an almost sexual sense of release that comes of the left finally shouting, "BAN THEM! SEIZE THEM! DISARM ALL THOSE DAMNED PEASANTS! OH GOD…YES…IT FEELS SO GOOD!!!!!"
It’s Time to Ban Guns. Yes, All of Them.
Ban guns. All guns. Get rid of guns in homes, and on the streets, and, as much as possible, on police. Not just because of San Bernardino, or whichever mass shooting may pop up next, but also not not because of those. Don’t sort the population into those who might do something evil or foolish or self-destructive with a gun and those who surely will not. As if this could be known—as if it could be assessed without massivelyviolating civil liberties and stigmatizing the mentally ill. Ban guns! Not just gun violence. Not just certain guns. Not just already-technically-illegal guns. All of them.
That's from the New Republic, and I suppose author Phoebe Maltz Bovy had to relax with a cigarette and some soothing merlot from a box after and experience like that! Gosh, Phoebe, was it good for you?
Which, after several deep breathing exercises, brings us in a roundabout way back to our premise, that certain fundamental truths were once transmitted to the little snowflakes from the time they could toddle all through what we once called "higher education" (pause for appropriate laughter). You'd think that given the fascist left's generalized acquiescence of/submission to the tenants of radical Islam, as long as it's not their head being paraded around, say Cincinnati, you'd think they would have lat least glanced at some of the parables from that part of the world. I'm thinking Aladdin's Wonderful Lamp…hell, there was even a movie, with Robin Williams, no less, as the Jinn (as noted in the Holy Qur'an, created by Allah out of a fire of a scorching wind; Verse 15:27, but you're going to have to pick your own translation).
Had they bothered learning any of those old truths, they'd know it was a screamin' b-atch to get a genie back in the old lamp, or bottle, or shoved back down the throat of Michael Bloomberg's whore spinmeisters. So, in simple easy to understand terms, not matter how close it gets to the election, none of us will believe ONE DAMN WORD you clowns have to say about guns, about how, no really, nobody meant any of that "Australian model" or "voluntary turn-ins," or "outright confiscations." That was just craaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaazy talk! You might as well start wearing SS slashes on your collars…we know who you are!
You'll notice that Americans no longer favor banning assault rifles…in fact, after a slow summer of long gun sales, ARs are flying off the shelves…again. Oh, and in the spirit of Christmas 2015, don't forget to get at least 10 30-round magazines, a sling, a good optic (Aimpont, Trijicon, at the lower end Burris, Lucid, Bushnell) and at least 1000 rounds of ball ammo!
Oh, and BTW, Phoebe and all you progressives with your hot, sweaty fantasies of a gun-free America, I refer you to another parable, something about "Belling the Cat."
All it will take is a "pen" and we're toast! There isn't a single Republican in Congress that will stand-up for our Second Amendment Rights and defend us! It WILL take a newly elected "Hero" to set things right again.

Personally, I am in favor of the Israel gun model. It's been proven to work.
ReplyDeleteI hope republicans get serious and look at polling data to see which one has the best chance to beat Hillary. I really worry about 8 years of her and Supreme Court nominations.
ReplyDeleteA right is only a right if you exercise it. And the Right to Bear Arms ain't about duck hunting. Just because they say it doesn't exist, even if they rewrite to whole constitution, it's still our right. It didn't come from them. All the constitution does is LIST those rights. We always had them, piece of paper or not. The guarantee comes from the willingness to exercise that right. And...it's not about duck hunting.
ReplyDeleteWell said Michael!
ReplyDeletewith you all the way but whichever electronic device you used changed tenet to tenant, gawd I despise when the dumb machines do that. Best thing about my new I phone is it allowed me to disable that "feature". Always proofread as I know you know the difference sir
ReplyDeletethe gods of copybook headings and the fable of belling the cat.. two must reads!.. thank, and spot on... but we still cant let down our guard... britian, austrailia and canada stand as our closest anglo examples... if there is still an anglo connection in america.. another scary thought, since that was our foundation.
ReplyDeleteyeah, auto correct kills the crawfish….er crap…outta me. In my case, it's mostly a question of speed. As a professional write of, heaven help me, more than 30 years, I find myself incapable of editing my own material until a period of time has passed. I try to go back and catch mistakes a few hours, or even days later, but, meh. Mostly I go on to the next thing…

I am concerned a follower of MB would advocate for restrictive Israeli gun control.
ReplyDeleteIsrael is better than most, but their self-defense system is largely based on part-time soldiers, police and security guards, all of which are minutes away when seconds count!
ReplyDeleteNO THANKS!

ReplyDeleteWho's side are you on? Not just no to the Israeli format, but HELL NO!
And then there is this from Slate, of all places:
ReplyDeletePresident Obama Just Offered Two Bad Ideas for Fighting Gun Violence
Cracking down on assault weapons and the no-fly list is wrongheaded and unhelpful.

I will believe that gun control groups are reasonable when they offer a significant expansion of gun rights in exchange for something they want. Such as:
Nationwide CCW reciprocity in exchange for s simple expansion of NICS checks
Or
Federal preemption of all gun laws regulating the sale, ownership and possession of firearms *and magazines in exchange for a simple expansion of NICS checks
However, I do not think they ever will do this. They could have done it back in 2013, but refused. They are unwilling to tolerate any significant expansion of gun rights, even if it advances what they say is their goal.
I think I might have overstated what I meant by calling it Israeli model. This was meant tongue in cheek to what the antis were calling the Australian model. What I meant by this was that Israel had lots of folks who had firearms simply shot the terrorists. When there was a problem with children being targeted by terrorists they armed the adults on field trips and had armed citizens on the playgrounds. When their neighbors acted up against them, they respond with strong force. I might have incorrectly assumed their gun laws were quite liberal. My apologies.
ReplyDeleteI should be clear that I fully support the second amendment with no but attached. I think we shouldn't need a permit to exercise our 2nd amendment rights. Gun control should mean paying your rent first before spending the rest of the paycheck at the local gunstore
ReplyDeleteAll this communitarian, collectivist, liberal claptrap made me go out and buy another AR lower receiver to build up and another SiG EBR 'salt rifle.....just for general purposes.
ReplyDeleteAnd I did it on separate occasions so as to generate two NICS checks. Lets all work on making Obummer's last year in the oval orifice a record in nationwide gun sales.
Deep down in my most secret places, I visualize all the anti-gun minions eating handfuls of Rolaids and Tums and guzzling glass after glass of Alka-Seltzer in the attempt to sooth their twisted guts and aching heads.
I hope to hear about this in your next podcast.
ReplyDeleteNice one. In US having gun is very easy as it is simple to join the Firearms safety training classes and get the license to have that killer. Hope so that this can help you in acquiring that courage and feeling of safety within yourself but the fact is that guns has increased the number of mass killings around the world. so we must be careful while keeping guns along with us.
