A Rifle

"Without a rifle you are nothing, worthless, you are waiting for death, any minute, any second."
— Aron Bielski

I stumbled across this quote from the movie Defiance, which I have not seen. I thought it was apt, all things considered.

If you do not have an AR, an AK  a Mini-14 or any other semiauto rifle, 10 magazines for that rifle and at least 1000 rounds of suitable ammunition, by all means make your plans to obtain them ASAP!

I ask the simple question...why? What are you going to do with that rifle?

Sorry, I'm going to stick with my Winchester 94 in .357 Magnum - the "black rifle" of the 19th Century.

we have...half a rifle each, between two of us. the other half is on the way for each. making plans to hit a gun show not in Maryland for the mags.

I'm going to protect and defend, something you cannot do in your state, unless your an outlaw.

I'll use it to protect my home and the life of my family. The presence of it drove a ne'er-do-well into flight once. It's also safer to shoot (.223/5.56) in the home than the 9mm, 40 S&W, 45, etc... My preference is the PS-90 in 5.7x28mm.

Changing the subject a bit, a lot of people say they are willing to die to protect their family....but at the same time they are reluctant to do something that may be construed as breaking the law which would get them jail time. I'd hate to say I didn't do anything because it was against the law, when I could have, at the funeral of one of my children or my wife. Something for "prepared" men to ponder in their hearts; will you let the aversion of the possibility of doing time for doing the right thing make your decision for you?

Each has his/her own perspective, or paranoia, for buying protective firepower. As a Senior Citizen, I'll leave long distance combat to others.

I'm concerned with growing incidents of Seniors having their homes invaded because they are "easy pickn's", as one bum stated.

For that, I'll leave the recommended AK', AR's,purchase to others.

I'll rely on my two stratigically placed 12ga. Mariners with #1 buck. Within my walls or front/back yards, sufficient force will be applied if necessary.

Nothing like smooth "click-click" of a shotgun being racked as a deterant. Beats "I've got a gun" anytime. The latter leaves a little doubt; the former, none.

Uphold the Second Ammendment!

Remember Bunker Hill. The militias ran out of ammo and gave up the field.

But the British took heavy losses.

After that fight the Brits holed up in Boston and eventually evacuated.

Militia men in that era were required to have a musket, powder and ball.

I'm just sayin'

This movie looks like a great object lesson on several levels...Ben Stein writes (in a most pointed manner) he's thankful, even in the face of today's events, to be in America rather than 1941 Eastern Europe.

The purpose of my question was as follows: Most of the folks visiting this site already have some protection for home and hearth. So this to me looks like pure conspicuous consumption. Gratuitous spending. Total cost probably over a grand or two.

Why is it that folks can spend that money on a firearm and not support the NRA, GOA or anyone else with a check for a grand? If everyone lining up at the gunstore gave the money they are pissing away to the NRA we wouldn't need to line up at the gunstore.

You should get the rifle, the ammo, and then donate an equal amount to the NRA-ILA.

As for what are we going to use them for?

Unlike the folks in NJ who were outnumbered by socialists, we intend to make the folks who want to take these weapons from us die.

Donating to the NRA is about the last step ... I would not feel I had done my best if I hadn't given these socialist boobs a chance to step away from the cliff by attempting to fix this via politics.

All talk of violence aside, there's a very specific reason I want as many black rifles out there as possible — I want as many stakeholders in the upcoming battle as possible.

Who is the larger stakeholder, a person who has contributed $35 to the NRA or a person who owns the very type of rifle that the G is trying to limit/ban? And make no mistake...the sequence is always the same:
• Shut off access to new versions
• Register the old versions
• Confiscate them all
Not "occasionally"...not "often"...but every single time!

People who are buying black rifles for the first time tend to become evangelists for the platform very quickly, because the guns are everything we say they are...easy and fun to shoot, useful for defense, hunting, competition, plinking, etc.

Besides, it Big Government thinks you shouldn't have it, you need at least 2!

Not to be a pain but let me ask the follow up. What happened last time (1994) with all the 'stakeholders'? What is going to be different this time?

I will bet you a box of Krispy Kremes that there is NOT one single cintilla of difference. If BHO and the Congress passes an AWB it will not be because of lack of some inventory out there. It will be because the political activitists were not out there. The bill will be signed, or the EO, and there won't be some armed revolt. Folks will comply with the law. End of story.

Finally I will say that someone who writes a check for a thousand dollars (not 35 dollars) to the NRA generally feels committed and is a stakeholder.

THE Walter Mitty fantasy of a vocal segment of the gun culture. When the cops say hand them over these blowhards will be first in line.

Garands from CMP are between $500/ea and $600/each.

Ammo is ~$0.30/round

Do it now!

And Anon: Re Walter Mitty, don't extrapolate your cowardice onto others. It's inaccurate and foolish.

The Republican revolution of 1996. The people didn't like the ban that was passed and showed it in the next election. First time in 40 years the house was controlled by the Republicans.

This time, we don't want the ban in the first place. It took 10 years for the last one to eclipse, this one might not have an eclipse date.

OVERLOAD
You missed the point. First, the MB "stakeholders" (owners of targeted firearms) did nothing to PREVENT either the passage of the AWB on their own nor did they disobey the law.

The turnouts/contests of 94 and 96 that were affected by the NRA proves my point. What influence the NRA had in those elections was exactly because of the organizing and action of the NRA. Being a gun owner doesn't automatically mean your interested or active in the politics of your town or country. Otherwise BHO wouldn't be President today with 80 million gun owners in the country.

I stand by my argument. Buy guns or contribute to political activism. The more the BUY movement is ginned up, the less the NRA/GOA/whoever gets. The less the NRA gets the less effective the PRO GUN SIDE IS.

So go ahead and make your choice. Stuff your gun safe with goodies or defend your right to own the goodies.

You know Put Me Down as one of those cantankerous guys who just doesn't buy into the sound of shucking a shotgun shell into the chamber of a pump gun being a good deterent for goblins who invade.

If that was true, then all we would really need would be a Memorex tape and battery powered player and not an 870 and 00 Buck!

To me any sound of this sort in a home invasion is a target indicator for the bad guy. Better he hear no sound at all, well except for the first part of the report...

Foolish Idea...

All The Best,
