Am now in the break between GUN STORIES and RAPID FIRE, before SHOOTING GALLERY, ELITE TACTICAL UNIT and THE BEST DEFENSE, the sprint to Christmas. So far, so good. I'm getting ready for a major overhaul of my office, which is terrifying. I need to bring my recording studio, where I do the podcast and voice-overs for SHOOTING GALLERY, up to par. This will involve a level of "creative destruction," pretty much on a nuclear level.
We're headed into the summer doldrums on guns...everything that can be made is being sold, across the board. Even some bolt-action rifles like the Savages and the Ruger Gunsite Scout are blowing out the door.
Can't believe NBC is rolling out a ONE SECOND AFTER post-EMP series, REVOLUTION, for the fall. Actually, it does look more like the DIES THE FIRE series, though undoubtably not as good. Still, I'm up for swords and crossbows...

I told the other half that it had a "Dies the Fire" feel, minus the Bearkillers and Nantucket-gone-missing. And everyone is way too clean and in fantastic shape for the situation in which they've been living. Not fair. They're not allowed to be pretty.
Will give it a go once it hits Hulu, at least for a few episodes.
You know, JERICHO, the last post-Apoc series, was better than it had any right to be, so I hold out a little hope.
I would like this a lot better if it was Joss Whedon working directly with S. M. Stirling...and given the staggering success of GAME OF THRONES, that's what NBC should have done!
And yes, they do seem a bit squeaky clean and a tad filled out for 15 years post-TEOTWAWKI. I suppose it's too much to hope for a return of the Clans and the Dunedain Rangers...sigh...
Okay, now you're making my brainmeats happy with the mere IDEA of THE WHEDON (Jossismymasternow) working with Mr. Stirling. Pity that isn't the case here.
Ah well. I'll expect the worst and hope for the best.
On the simpler side, I recently caught a cool flick called "The Road". It sends a good message to those that always revert to the "Yeah but that can't happen here" position. I just asked one of those types; "But, what would you do if it does happen?" It got them thinking and then the answer was "I don't know". I know that they don't forget to think about it often now.
I highly recommend the movie.

P. S.: My wife has gotten to like Gun Stories. She was drawn to the theme music at first, then she discovered that the much respected "Joe" was the host. She regularly cozies-up next to me to watch it whenever it's on. Bravo Michael!

I'd consider Falling Skies the latest post-Apoc series. Or, do having aliens in the show change the genre?
Anonymous Life Member...
"The Road", cool. Read the book, as always, better than the flick.
Overload...you are correct...aliens are automatic disqualifiers for TEOTWAWKI movies. As soon as the Mothership lands, it's an ALIEN movie! Snore...nod...
Okay, I do watch FALLING SKIES...although sometimes I could scream at the script.
And yes, THE ROAD is a great book. Never saw the movie. The guy should have stayed in the bunker until the food ran out! And had better op-sec...much better op-sec! LOL!

I'm fine with swords & crossbows, although I fould Stirling's books incredibly silly -- not to mention that his premise was a ripoff of an '80s fantasy novel by Steven Boyett.
A couple of years back, Boyett took a critical look at his first novel and said, y'know, the whole idea was pretty dumb. (Not a direct quote, obviously.)
Stirling CAN do good work, but those books were most emphatically not.
I'm just lol-ing at the art. They're out of ammo, but they still have plenty of cool threads. Um...right.
Hey Beaumont...did you at least like THE PESHAWAR LANCERS????
And yes, it's good to know that even after TEOTWAWKI, Old Navy remains open! LOL!
