Well, maybe not woe woe...
Gonna spend tomorrow AM on the range with the Ruger American Rimfire I plan to shoot in the NSSF Rimfire Challenge. I wanted to use a Burris 2-7x scope that mimics the scope on my hunting rifle, the Ruger Guide Gun in .300 Win Mag, but sans Weaver scope mounts, I'm SOL. The America has good fixed sights, including a green fiber optic front, so I'll be A-Okay-ish.
Having been having a blast with the Apex Tactical S&W 617! Great little gun to shoot.
More tomorrow...

Would something like this solve your problem?

I know Bass Pro (has to be one near you) sells a similar product that is all one piece. It's what I have on my 10-22 and I love it.

MB - I have a question that I can't seem to find an answer to:
Have you found or heard of a reload formula that is good for the GSR? I've tried to find a hunting load, going from 150-180gr .308's of various types, using various powders (4064, Varget, 3031, even some old Data Powder 2200 I've still got, using mostly Hornady bullets), not one of them produces what I'd call "good" results. All yield something in the 3" range - with flyers. I had a bit of match ammo, and could produce 1" - 1.5" groups with that, so I'm pretty sure it's not me or the rifle. I just can't seem to find "the magic". (Yeah, I know this is a match vs. hunting bullet - but I've been able to create so many loads for other rifles that all produce 1" or less groups for old, unmodified military stuff, that I can't believe I can't get a load for the GSR that produces anything better than what I mentioned).
I've asked around some sites - and no one seems to have a recipe for the GSR.
So have you heard of, or found, a good reload that could be used for a hunting load for the GSR?
Tim...honestly, I haven't started reloading for the 7.62 yet. I strongly urge you to visit Forum member Andy Langlois's SCOUT RIFLE FORUM:
http://www.scoutrifle.org
Ask the question there...I'll bet you can get an answer pretty quickly. That said, my GSR seems happiest with Hornady Superformance 165-gr GMXs, which are stupid expensive, of course.
Have you tried IMR4895 with a bullet in the 165-gr range? I know that Varget is the "go-to" powder on short-barreled 7.62 loads.
Sheepdog, thanks!

it's amazing how exhausting the puppy years are.. Especially labs! Then they are buddas.. And then too soon they are gone. Dogs cant live with em, can't live without em!
Hey, I had a great time reading your website. Do you have an email address that I can contact you on? Thank you and hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Michael,
I went to read my daily bacchanalia (feel like I'm borrowing that word from somewhere) on View From the Porch from Tam. I got some weird google login show up and I don't see it on your links. Any idea what is up? I ask just in case your blog acts funny unexpectedly as well.
Yeah, puppy obedience class. We had a family dog, poodle, who actually was thrown out of the puppy obedience school graduation exercises!
OTOH, I had an Australian Shepherd who was sitting on command - voice and hand gesture - by the end of the first class. As the instructor of that class said, I love working with working dogs, they just GET IT!!!
