I've spent the last couple of days reading a fairy tale, Neil Gaiman's 1998 Stardust. It's a real fairy tale, too, complete with fairies, witches, true loves, happily ever after and no political point whatsoever.
Gaimen's a graphic novelist, of course, and a heck of a novelist...I loved American Gods.
Anyway, when you need a break from the Real World, try Stardust. You'll feel better, I promise!

I'm still sipping thru Gravity's Rainbow. Started it several times over the years and always bogged down around the scene with the giant adenoid. Now I'm at the halfway mark and am in the thrall of a towering comic genius.
I've read all of Pynchon's stuff except V -- another one I've started several times and not been able to get any traction in -- and Mason & Dixon, which I will read after GR. Maybe then, after M&D, I'll tackle V in a final death grip.
