Bush Second Term Stance on Gun Rights!!

This from the Wall Street Journal:
"The new Justice Department memorandum acknowledges that "the question of who possess the right secured by the Second Amendment remains open and unsettled in the courts and among scholars," but goes on to declare that "extensive reasons" support seeing it as an individual right, while there is "no persuasive basis" for taking another view. Great Blog. Do you seriously think Bush is our friend when it comes to gun or any other rights? Maybe for now when it suits his purposes but I would not trust the pack of liars and incompetents that make up his administration and certainly not Bush himself (also and liar and incompetent).

That's good but meaningless news. I view it as being akin ot Ashcroft's reversal of the collective Right policy. Sure, they acknowledge an individual Right, but they go on to say that it's subject to reasonable government regulations. Keep in mind Sarah Brady only wants what she thinks of as reasonable regulations. Odds are any administration is going to think reasonable is closer to Sarah's definition than mine.

The DOJ report didn't explore the scope of the Right or any limitations - just whether it applied to individuals or not. It's better than nothing, but practically it has little effect I'm afraid.
