Charleston

Yes, it makes me sick, and my heart bleeds for the families of the victims.

There are things, however, that need to be said as the political posturing begins...excuse me, has already begun.

Last season on THE BEST DEFENSE we made the decision to include a church shooting scenario. This was probably the toughest decision we've ever made on TBD, and it is one we argued at length. Finally, I, Michael Janich, Michael Seeklander, Marty Hayes, Producer Jeff Murray and DP Brandon Green agreed that including the church scenario was important.

We discussed it with the pastor and his congregation. While the pastor didn't agree with us, he did agree that the message we wanted to present was important. Frankly, the scenario was disturbing for all of us...after all, we were bringing violence onto holy ground. But we did that scenario, and we all learned from that scenario.

We proved -- PROVED BEYOND ANY DOUBT! -- that a good guy with a gun, or a good guy willing to fight, are the only antidotes to this evil, this nightmare violence.

I will not go beyond this tonight, but I will be talking about it on this week's podcast.

Gun-free zones, as the church in Charleston was, are killing grounds for terrorists and the mentally deranged.

Mourn the dead; comfort the living; wake up tomorrow AM and face the Real World.

Think about it. If you believe in good and evil, where do you think evil goes to make mischief?

Good people are ripe for picking.

Good people have to be prepared to defend themselves from evil.

29 people have been murdered in the President's hometown of Chicago this month. 175 this year.

75% of the victims were black, 71% of the killers were black.

What sort of outrage do we hear?

Crickets.

Perhaps it's time to re-form the Deacons for Defence again. . . .

Maybe it's time for people to quit being sheep.
In the context of self defense the debate over gun control is irrelevant.
Most of these people would still have been killed if they had machine guns because they lacked the mind set to survive.
Had they had that mindset they would have tackled this mental case.
Defenseless ? Not by a long shot, they could have thrown hymnals and Bibles at him, they could have beaten him with the collection plate.
People seem to have the impression that a gun is somehow impossible to overcome.
They don't THINK and realize that once you are close enough to grab the muzzle a gun becomes useless. Might you get hurt ? Almost definitely, but hurt beats the crap out of killed.
1 or 2 people hurt mobbing this guy would have been much better than 9 dead while cowering.
The Bible says God helps them who help themselves, God has given the Human animal all the tools he needs for survival, start using them instead of praying for God to do your part of the job as well.

And yet, where are the parents? Where is his family? Just this morning, his "family" issued a statement of condolence. ONLY a "statement" of condolence.

Families may be the last line of defense. They see us daily. They hear us. They should judge us and influence us. They need to correct us if we go astray. They need to be judgmental. They need to contain us if we need that too. What did they know? What are the rest of the facts? How are they actually responsible for what happened?

We need to learn everything and then react.

I believe its time for the "Deacons for Defense" concept to be reviewed by many synagogues and churches, wouldn't you say?

Uhh..nope. Maybe we should stay fact based in our discussions.

"Gun Free" zones aren't if you don't care about silly things like laws.
If we could wake up people to this fact, we would all be better off.

"By God's Grace, I managed to return fire"!, said the individual featured in the attached article.

I'm not saying that this is the answer to this past weeks shooting, I'm just referring to the article.
