What Can Be More Fun...

...on a cold, snowy Sunday than restoring software on one's iPhone? I'm going to upgrade the thing when I get the spare moments to go to the AT&T store...I'd love to do it online, but AT&T says that for "security reasons" they have to send the phone to a street address. Well, yeah, I have a street address, but no mail delivery. The hamster at AT&T Customer Service told me that was ridiculous, as everyone gets mail at their street address. I said that, in fact, I didn't, nor did any of my neighbors, but we all had a P.O. boxes in town. Sudden silence, because only AL QUAIDA has P.O. boxes.

"We can't send anything to a P.O. box," he said. Funny, I replied, you don't seem to have any trouble sending me my bill to my P.O. box. Changing gears, I suggested that he use UPS or Fed-Ex to send me my phone to the street address. "We don't do that," he said.

I was reminded that when I activated the phone at the Apple Store, we had to use the Apple Store address because AT&T refused to believe P.O. boxes exist. Then I had to go to your online AT&T account and change my billing address to the P.O. box.

MORONS!

Funny, I have had similar issues, and we have a P.O. box too. For the record, even UPS and FedEx won't come out here. That is right, even here in the U.S.A, they call us when they have a package and we go to town to pick it up.

Supposedly Verizon is going to be selling iPhones in the next few months. However, that rumor keeps making the rounds but has never proven out so far....

The answer is obvious:

Have them ship to your FFL dealer. You're going to be going there anyway, aren't you?

Just some more of the freedoms we have lost because we really don't address the real problem(s)......!

Mike I've hade to restore four of these in the last six months. Don't you just love it with approx. 600 tunes over sixty apps and a whole lot of computer updates to boot. I'm beginning to question the sanity of it all. Somewhat disappointed but still committed to the apple product. Heaven help us if Al-Quida figures out how to effectively use this as a weapon, do they have a bomb app yet?

Variant of my pet peeve. I have to constantly play "chase the parcel" with deliveries by carriers. Their business model assumes you have dedicated staff to receive deliveries during the daytime. Hopeless in an apartment building w/o an onsite superintendent.

A better business model would support "offsite" deliveries to a "certified" alternate addresses. Credit card companies quietly support listing alternate delivery addresses, but retailers have to pay a surcharge to confirm that detail in a transaction, so few of them like to offer it as a service.

I recently had much the same conversation with my credit card company.
"Sir, we need your street mailing address to send you your new card".
I told them I only got mail at my PO Box.
"Sir, we can't send the card to a PO Box"." For security reasons".
So it is safer to leave an unsigned credit card in a unsecured mailbox on a rural highway!!??? My bill comes to the PO Box!
They got to keep their card!
I told them to cancel my account

We've got the same thing up here in Avon, CO. The good news is that someone up here is sueing the government to allow them to carry at the post office because they have to go there to get their mail.

Gotta new Iphone from my family for my Birthday. They were willing to turn the new phone on immediately, without me even being there, but my family wanted it to be a surprise so they elected to take me to the Apple Store on Monday morning. My drivers license had expired on the previous Wed (MY BDAY) and the Apple Store wouldn't do it, even though I'd had an AT&T account and Iphone for three years. I like my Iphone, but sorry MacHeads (means people who ignore reality and cost), Apple is just another big corp with good marketing. As they grow not even their good marketing is going to cover up the fact that they suck.

That's why you don't use ATT. Sprint and Verizon don't have a problem with FED Ex or UPS.

Get an Android or Windows Phone.
It'll last longer

Throw the phone out. Jack O'connor, Elmer Keith, Jeff Cooper and Col. Whelan left more of a legacy to the shooting sports then anyone around today. They didn't have access to a freaking iPhone or iPad.
