Got Loaded Today!

At least, got almost 1000 rounds of cowboy match ammo loaded today! Top Brass processed once-fired .357 brass, Federal primers, LaserCast 158-gr RNFP bullets and Red Dot powder (not wussy loads). We've still got to hand-check each round and chamber check 'em, but the bulk of the work is done. Tomorrow I'll clean and lube guns.

Indiana Jackson and I had a great cowboy match at Pawnee Station Saturday in Ft. Collins...we each won our respective categories, and I had a clean match to boot. Perfect warm-up heading into Winter Range. Having reasonably decent eyesight turns out to be a big advantage for competition shooting...who'd have thought? I'm going to try contacts for the minor astigmatism in each of my eyes, but I'm pretty happy with my eyesight now...been a long haul for sure!

We'll be filming GUN STORIES with Steven Hunter and Bill Laughridge from Cylinder & Slide next week...ought to be big fun...am looking forward to it. The little gun seminar at GUNSITE is coming up...been looking forward to that, hammering out little 9mms.

BTW, am looking fir ZOMBIES in the Denver area for March 7, 8 & 9...know any????

Just a word to the wise , you might want to touch base with your eye surgeon ( not a glass's or contact lens fitter ) before you get contact lenses . There are some very nasty things that contacts can do to your eyes and possibly leave you blind. Why go through what you have and then put yourself in a in a 1 to a million lottery to lose your eye sight , I don't know about you but that is unfortunately the only type of lottery I would win , one with a nasty prize.

Hope the "little gun" seminar at Gunsite includes the Rhorbaugh. I like mine a lot, but those little things are hard to hang on to!

Michael,
I'm considering a Dillon 650 and was wondering how long it took you to load the .357 rounds. I know the time will vary from cartridge to cartridge but I was just curious about it.

Thanks!
George

In truth, I sucked it up a few years back and bought a 1050 to run .357s when my Sweetie started competing. It took less than 2 hours to run the +/- 1K rounds, and I wasn't hurrying.

I used a 650 for .40 when I shot USPSA Limited...that press smoked for .40; I ran a couple of different calibers on it later and it was hit or miss. It's set up now for .44 Russians and Specials, and it's very happy...figure 400 or so an hour, given time filling primer tubes, bullet trays, etc.

I've used Dillons since there were Dillons...I still have an old 400 series press coverted over the years to a 550. I used the press in an outdoor shed in Florida for .45s back when we all competed with 1911s...eventually the dies rusted into the press, which didn't make any difference since I never changed the load...when I moved to a less humid placevand started shooting .40s, Dillon, good for their guarantee, overhauled the press, no questions asked...
