Sorry for Slow Posting...and a SUPER Holster!

Spent the day catching up on audio work in my studio. Every time I look at the morass of wires I swear I'm going to redo everything and make it more like a studio than an explosion in a B&H catalog. Then I probably wouldn't know how to operate it.

I ended up doing a full-bore rant for Wednesday's podcast on the coming battle over "expanded capacity" magazines. Sorry.

Ordered a Kimber Solo 9mm for our mini-9 shakeout. BTW, I've had an epiphany on IWBs...been using one of the N8(2) Tactical super comfortable holsters. I got the holster a year or so ago from Nate himself, started using it but went through a gun change and set the N8 aside...big mistake. When I started carrying the Ruger LC9, I checked to see whether the N8 would work. Perfecto!

N8(2) Tactical IWB

Gotta be the most comfortable IWB in the world. The holster itself is stitched onto a neoprene panel backed with soft suede (I'll take some pixs in the AM). The neoprene is a vapor barrier between your sweaty skin and the gat, plus providing a bit of padding from the lumpy parts of the gun. After about 5 minutes you don't even know the gun is there. Gonna buy a couple of more flavors tomorrow!

Am I missing something? I've heard a few of the usual suspects do their "why do people need those things?" whine, but I haven't seen anything that looks like a "coming battle."

Make sure you include the new Kahr CM9.... I got a feeling that could be the winner in the Mini 9 wars

I just saw the Ruger LC-9 yesterday out of the hands of a Ruger rep. I really liked it but the trigger was like it was full of sand.

My LC9 trigger sucked for about 20 rounds of ball, then it smoothed out nicely. It's smooth enough at this point that I probably won't have any work done on it. It ain't an S&W revolver, mind you, but it's not bad.

RE: Kahr, those guys REALLY know how to make nice little pistols, and the CM9 MSRP is alleged to be closer to the $500 "sweet spot" for the mini-9s.

RE: extended mags, Dave S. you need to get out more. Again, I don't think the other side can win on the magazine capacity restriction, but they unequivocally believe this is the most successful antigun issue they've had in years.

Might it blow over? Absolutely...but I think BHO has to throw his core moonbat constituency some red meat, probably in the form of a minor talk, and since no sane person — even one as out of touch as Mr. President — touches the "third rail" of a new AWB, about the only piece of meat to throw out there is support for a 10-round capacity cap.

NOT going to get through the Republican House...probably won't even be brought to the floor. But we need to be paying attention to this, because it has the potential to bubble up fast...

That holster violates just about every rule I have for a carry holster after YEARS of carrying. No clips, no 'one size fits none', it must stay open on after the draw.

However, I can see how it would be comfortable.

That Guy, interesting points! I used to be 100% like you on IWBs — no clips, gun specific, reholstering critical. Over the last couple of years I've drifted away from my formerly well-thought out world views. I discovered that I didn't hate clips, I hated CRAPPY clips, clips that didn't hold.

I then discovered that some of the zillions of cast-off holsters that I had worked great with guns other than the guns I bought them for. This led to the odd sight of me sitting in the gun room sorting through decades worth of holsters. A blunt trauma example is the Rosen Express pancake I've used to carry the LC9...the holster was made for the SR9c, and I didn't like it at all with that gun. OTOH, I think it's an excellent holster for the LC9. Go figure...

On reholstering, I've done a pretty much about face. I think there is a real issue with people wanted to get the gun in the holster much sooner than they should (which I believe is competition driven).

If I have drawn the gun in defense of my life, I suspect the gun will remain out until the situation is fully resolved...that will usually involved the arrival of the police, in which case I DO NOT want to have reholstered the gun if at all possible...rather, put it on the ground, etc. There is a danger that if I have reholstered, have a Major Brain Fade and want to "show" the police my now-safed gun, the motion of showing that gun is "motion consistent with a draw," which can result in the very wrong outcome. The police upon arrival are going to want to know where the gun is, and based on my interviews with numerous police officers, they're going to want to SEE it and see that it is not under my control, especially if there is a cooling body on the ground.

I have done reholsters with this holster...not optimal, but not impossible, either. In a worse case situation, my inclination would be to follow pocket holster protocols of removing the holster first — unclip the holster, remove it from the belt, reholster the gun, clip it back on the belt...

On the re-holstering situation, Mike, you have the right of it.

The necessity of the one handed holstering drill is NOT the ultimate requirement for Joe Blow gun owner. It would be nice in some circumstances but not a big deal.

Keeping aware of what the hell is going on around you is most important.

As for myself I use the procedure you mentioned.

What great timing. I have been looking for an IWB holster for my Armscor MAPP1 MS (essentially a EAA Witness P Carry). Needless to say finding a holster specifically for my gun has been next to impossible. I read about the Remora holsters yesterday and the n8tactical today. They are similar but I think that I like the idea of still having a clip like the n8tactical has.

Which size is that pictured? Also, I'm assuming you prefer this against a leather/kydex combo that's oh-so-popular? I'm hoping to pick up an LC9 shortly and am curious for both all day comfort and maximum concealability how this compares to a crossbreed or m-tac.

Thank you,
Jason

I believe the version I have is the CS, Compact Slim...I have a couple of the new gen kydex/leather holsters, but I haven't worn them enough to have an opinion. I haven't worn them enough because my initial opinion has been they fail the comfort test. My baseline IWB has always been the Lou Alessi-designed Talons...they go on easy, carry well and as leather holsters are pretty comfortable, especially after they've been worn for awhile. The N8 is substantially more comfortable than the Talon, which is saying a lot.

I keep fiddling with the leather/kydex hybrids, but because they're so much longer than a regular IWB I haven't been able to find the "sweet spot" where the holster seems to disappear as you carry it. That doesn't mean the sweet spot isn't there...just that I haven't found it for my personal situation.

I'm not willing to make a flat pronouncement here...maybe I just haven't worked the system enough to get it right...but right now it seems like more bulk stuffed into my pants for a relatively small return in comfort.

I emailed n82tactical about the right size holster for my gun and asked about tucking. They responded that they have a tuckable version and they are in the process of adding it to their online store in the next week or so.
