Ruger SR9

Getting great response to the Ruger SR9 launch over on DOWN RANGE!

My long-term T&E SR9 just arrived, and I'm going to start putting rounds though it this weekend.

There is a LOT to like in this new pistol...very 1911-centric ergonomics; a manual safety in the 1911 position; interchangeable flat or rounded backstrap; good sights; excellent trigger; skinny skinny skinny!

I can't WAIT for the compact version!

Excellent first impression and fabulous price point.

However...

1. Given the wonderful 1911 ergonomics employed, why didn't Ruger just going ahead and launch this pistol as a SR45?

2. Why did Ruger's stock drop more than 3 percent today? (I was expecting it to go up on the announcement. Even Smith and Wesson was up.)

Does it have a [deleted] integral key-activated locking device?

Picked up mine tonight, the only issue was that the front sight was slightly off. Once that was corrected, the SR9 is a tack driver!

How many are in the "First Production Run"?

This sounds like a nice gun, but I wouldn't buy a gun with a magazine "safety". You'd think they would drop this idea.

The magazine disconnect is designed to be deactivated by the user! This is sweet.

I'll be looking forward to larger calibers, but being that I reside in the Socialist Republic of Kalifornia, it'll be a while before this gun gets through the statees safety tests and to stores, and by that time, the pistol will have to have a micro-stamping firing pin. Dang, it's time to leave this state!

Any idea when these will be going retail?

As soon as they offer it in a serious caliber I'll give it a look.

Michael: Please comment on the SR9 trigger. Does it have a short positive reset like a Glock? Or does the trigger have to be returned all the way forward to reset, like a Kahr?

After getting to hold one and play with it, I wasn't impressed. Combination of a Kahr and a P-series.
And it doesn't even have one of the American made Ruger knives with it similar to what they made some time ago like their "all weather" knives. Heck, it isn't even one of the nice Case knives!

One other thing that really got me was the "billboard" on the slide...I didn't buy a 1911 from another maker until they dropped the tacky "billboard"...now it's collectable.

Just what we need...another "jammamatic" instead of a more useful revolver.

Will they offer high capacity magazines for the pistol?

A high capacity pistol that you can't get high cap mags for me is next to useless.

I want one in .45 ACP.

The magazines are 17 round unless you live in a state that prohibits magazines that contain more than 10.

CAN ANYONE SAY TAURUS 24/7?

Cool look at a new pistol. Thanks for the videos too. They are very helpful in understanding the gun. Not sure if Ruger is for me but I will certainly be checking this one out next time I am in mylocal gun shop. Thanks again for all the info.

Thanks from here too, for the good article and coverage. I'd encourage others to use the link to the Ruger site and read that too, along with the G & A article.
The only concern I can see is the big gap between the bottom of the trigger and the inside of the trigger guard. That may be an issue for glove wearers.

I'm also interested in the trigger, action and actual physical length. The SR9 photos appear to show that the trigger is "short" like the new Kimber KPD. The Kimber trigger is "too short" for me, gloves or not, so I'm worried about the SR9. The FNP trigger, available for viewing in many Internet images, is much longer and works great.

As a Glock instructor, I always look for a similar trigger action as I'm used to the reset; even had an XD modified so the trigger is like a Glock. This will be subjective so I'm looking forward to seeing a new SR9 "in person."

Got one yesterday. Groupings were tight at 7,10, 15 yards. Only complaint is the "gritty trigger".

Great pistol; but difficult magazines. Mine has 17 round high capacity style; just about broke my fingers loading the ammo.
Called Ruger to complain and they sent me 2 replacement magazines that are fine.
Really impressed by both the quality of the SR9 and Rugger's attentiveness to my problem.

Took mine to the range today for first time, the slide is a bit stiff but the trigger is great. Very accurate to fire. Has great sights and a good feel. It puts my Glock to shame. However my Beretta 9mm is a better gun.

Still want a better caliber. If this had been a 45 or something crzy and unsuspected like a 50. I'd be on it already. But as for now I still have my sights on a berretta 9mil or a Ruger p345. Im a ruger fan, but I have my taste.

The SR9 recall and Rugers response really is very poor. They fouled up on the engineering; the gun can discharge when dropped. The initial retrofit was supposed to happen in May; now it will be lucky if it is June or July. Ruger should take all the defective guns back as opposed to making purchasers wait on a retrofit that may happen in the indeffinite future. I will never buy another Ruger product.
