Gun Mags Find New Home

On a day when we're all bracing for a coronal mass ejection from our old pal, the Sun — all you space cadets out there, practice "radiation avoidance!" I mean it! — and Taco Bells across the northeast struggle to contain the e-colichirito epidemic, word comes that the massive Primedia gun mag & television empire — think Guns & Ammo — has found a new home. This from the AP:
NEW YORK — Magazine publisher Primedia Inc. is selling its hunting, fishing and outdoor titles, including Guns & Ammo and Game & Fish, to private equity firm InterMedia Partners LP for $170 million in cash.

The deal announced Thursday includes 17 publications and related Web sites, TV and radio programming and events.
Well, what's really interesting is InterMedia is a part-owner of The Sportsmen's Channel, a competitor to The Outdoor Channel, where most of Primedia's television product resides. Hmmmm and hmmmmm...

I hope that doesn't mess up the shooting shows on the outdoor network. I guess I have letters to write

I am confused. Will Guns & Ammo TV still suck? Or will it get better?

Mr Bane,

I am the guy who doesn't watch your show that often but I don't want to see you cancelled. Have you been renewed yet? Could there be some secret deal where all the shooting shows leave OC? Meaning OC broadcasts only those mindless hunting, fishing, gold prospecting, and four wheeling shows?

Looking on the bright side, maybe this means that Guns and Ammo and Shooting Times will go back to the old format, of the late 60's early 70's when they were well done magazines, instead of a collection of ads as they are now. Elmer and Skeeter would be really disappointed!

G&A TV does suck. It sucks the big one. If that leaves I won't care. More room for Shooting Gallery. When will be see another version of Shooting Gallery or another Michael Bane hosted show? Outdoor Channel needs more cool programs like Shooting Gallery. Please do another show.

NOOOOOOOO!! I don't get the Sportmen's Channel, I get the Outdoor Channel! We subscribers of the Outdoor Channel stand to lose Shooting Gallery, American Rifleman, Self Defense TV, and Guns and Ammo TV in one fell swoop.

(In Charlton Heston voice): Damn You! Damn You all to hell!!!...

I really hope I don't lose this programming. G&A TV and Self Defense TV could use some improvements, but they're all better than nothing.

If the Outdoor Channel were to drop Shooting Gallery I would drop the Outdoor Channel within hours. I don't care about Guns & Ammo's TV show, it can go today and I'd never notice. But SG is a WHOLE DIFFERENT BALLGAME! Don't screw with the SG!

I think somebody has some bad information. SG isn't a Primedia show. It's separate - which should be kinda obvious from the difference in quality. SG is a much better show. Good work on that Mr. Bane. If the Primedia shows leave who really cares? They can be replaced and probably should. They just aren't very good. I say revamp shooting gallery and expand/upgrade it to a 1 hour show.

Let's hope that shows like Guns and Ammo leave the Outdoor Channel for the Sportsman's Channel. The Outdoor channel needs some more GOOD programs (this DOES include SG which is excellent). I think the idea of a second show with Mr. Bane as host is great. I don't know why they haven't done this already.

Well this is good news for primedia (I guess). I am just glad that nothing is changing with good ole shooting gallery. That is my fave shot on the channel because it is about guns not hunting.

+1 for SG being my favorite gun show. Looking forward to new shows.

+1,000,000 for Shooting Gallery as the best gun show.

What? Are all these guys really that elitist that they dont see the damage to all of us when gun tv shows are not as available as they once were, or are spread so thin that you have to spend enough money for a new rifle just to get programming of intrest.American Rifleman should be on every channel to help spread the word that gun owners and NRA members aren't just a bunch of nuts.We have'nt gotten this far by standing alone.
