The nomination of Eric Holder for the post of attorney general of the United States sends an "alarming signal" to gun owners about how the Barack Obama administration will view individual gun rights, as affirmed this year by the Supreme Court, the Second Amendment Foundation said today.
"Eric Holder signed an amicus brief in the Heller case that supported the District of Columbia's handgun ban, and also argued that the Second Amendment does not protect an individual right," noted SAF founder Alan Gottlieb. "He has supported national handgun licensing and mandatory trigger locks. As deputy attorney general under Janet Reno, he lobbied Congress to pass legislation that would have curtailed legitimate gun shows.
"This is not the record of a man who will come to office as the nation's top law enforcement officer with the rights and concerns of gun owners in mind," he observed.
Holder's nomination, like the appointment of anti-gun Illinois Congressman Rahm Emanuel as White House Chief of Staff, tells American gun owners that Obama's campaign claims supporting the Second Amendment were "empty rhetoric," Gottlieb stated.

Obama is pro gun what are you saying? He isn't going to take my AR-15. He just wants sensible gun control. Everything will be ok.
The Dems just picked up another Senate seat today with the defeat of Stevens.
And the Dems will probably keep counting in MN until Franken wins.
Save back some of the ammo money for NRA donations and get any apathetic gun owners you know to join the NRA.
There will be some long, costly court battles coming up soon.
NRA didn't save us last time and their not going to ave us this time. The dems learned their lessons. AWB and no sunset. Then if they get voted out they can still stick it to the gun owners. And don't think the repubs will bring your rights back. Bush baby was more than willing to sign a new AWB if it came his way.
As I posted on DRTV, perhaps our biggest threat is not new legislation but the forceful use of the executive office to utilize the DOJ, ATF and EPA as weapons against gun owners.
Batten down the hatches.

Seems the 'Waco Rules' are going to come into play during this administration....
anon @6:01,
Last time we didn't have Heller. There's a chance the majority of the Supremes will throw out an AWB as not being reasonable.
So, give to the NRA dude!
Heller doesn't mean anything. You still can't have a gun in D.C. All the pols have to do is ignore the laws and say what they are doing is for the greater good. NRA will collect their millions and say they did all they could.
