Podcast Day...

...sorry, was working on the pod today and working on legal issues related to Colorado falling into Darkness. Back to normal blogging tomorrow.

Meanwhile, check out my friend Ron's When the Balloon Goes Up blog...he's covering some really interesting topics...stuff that I used to write and podcast about before politics consumed my life.

Still, I am really excited about my new FNH TSR .308/7.62 bolt gun. I do have a few changes I want to make...I'd like to change out to a CDI Precision bottom metal, which will allow me to use Accuracy International magazines. Yes, the AI mags are expensive, but they are the best in the world...as I've learned in working with the Ruger Scout, which uses the AIs (in addition to the Ruger polymer mags). I'm still pondering scopes...it's a toss-up between the Nightforce ATACR or a Leupold Mk 4 LR/T. I want this to be sort of my ultimate .308 long-distance rifle, so I'm not going to skimp on the glass. I'm hoping I like the Hogue overmolded stock...we'll see after I put some rounds through it. I have shot the McMillan A-3 and liked it a lot...so that'l be my default. Brother Iain has a "real" AI rifle...aside from the fact that Iain can outshoot me on any day, I'm interested in seeing how the FNH shoots alongside it.

This summer I'll be doing a long-distance class with the FNH, and yeah, we'll film it for SHOOTING GALLERY. Also, I made a decision earlier tonight that SG 2014 will do a show on 3-D printers for building guns and accessories, specifically magazines. I still remember back in the days of the Clinton AWB when SG did a show on how to build your own AR...and the amount of heat we took. Ah crap what can I say?

BTW, here's an article worth reading from the Alt-Market blog, titled "Gun Rights: Are There Any Peaceful Solutions Left?" I sincerely hope so...

There is a war going on down in Colorado and people think that threatening to cancel their weekend vacation to Vail is going to change the enemies mind? That is funny. Before the Soviet Jews killed 5 or 6 million Christians in Ukraine after confiscating their guns, maybe everything would have been just fine if only... oh never mind everything is different here in Amerika.

The New Nightforce and the Leupold are not even in the same league. Get the Nighforce and don't look back. I am planning on putting one on my new Desert Tactical SRS A1. Nightforce are outstanding dependable scopes that make a great "ultimate rifle" scope

Cheers. Big Bad Bob

Damn, where did all these.fools COME from? Micheal, I know you got a really full plate right now, but my son found a posting on FB about Marlin folding up, and Freedom Group being owned by Cerberus Capital Management, in turn being owned by George Soros. WTF? Is there ANY clue to all this crapola? Please tell me Soros ain't got his hooks in 70% of the industry? Jesus wept...

To: "JohninMd",

Thanks for the alarm, but:

The info' you posted has all been CONFIRMED to be FALSE. Go to "snopes" and FactCheck for the analysis. You can also check Cerberus' credentials at many financial websites.

By the way, Cerberus is divesting itself from all of it's gun-holdings. They are seeing public pressure diminishing the value of their shares; they are right. (They have no control over the inculcation that the investing public has by the anti-gun movement. I don't blame them for selling.) Maybe in the future, when America finds that they no longer have our fine law-abiding gun makers to rely on for civilian, police and military guns, investors will realize that they have an income producing opportunity by re-investing in those companies.

Stay vigilant!

Looking forward to hearing some AARs on the Bolt Gun. But since I'm still living in a Free State (Ohio), when the dust settles out there, I'd like to read a Post on just what is going to be Legal/Illegal for the Citizens of Colorado. One news story I read said that one of the Anti-Freedom State Politicians was quoted as saying that this Block of Legislation was just "Phase One," and that they were really just seeing how far they could get with making Colorado the first "State-Wide Gun Free Zone in the U.S., and that this will serve as a Model for the other 49 States to follow."

Stay Safe.

BB Bob is right. NightForce scopes are like Jewell triggers.
Once you use one, all the others are pretenders that don't measure up.

Settle on a single stock choice before embarking on the CDI bottom metal conversion. Lot of expensive gunsmithing to inlet and bed the stock for the conversion, you only want to pay for that once.

Anonymous @7:02 AM: Cerberus is a private company, and their business model is generally to buy, improve and sell, and they do this in particular discrete funds. I.e. they tell investors "We're going to start up a fund named X, to do Y, would you like to invest?"

A few years ago they reached the sell point with the Freedom Group, it was already on the market when a politicized California (but I repeat myself) state pension fund made nasty noises towards them after Newtown.

Doesn't matter, the pension fund's options are limited by the agreement they entered when they invested in the fund (although they can of course decline to invest in new funds), and Cerberus isn't going to sell the Freedom Group any sooner or later because of what they said.

Careful of relying on "Snopes", as I have read that the site is funded by Soros. I don't recall the details.

For what it is worth, I have two polymer Ruger Scout mags. I can not recommend them. Both springs have compressed and will not feed after the first round. I'm back to the expensive AI mags.
