Slow Blogging Alert!

Been crazy busy, and it'll probably continue through the weekend...sorry! Here's today's dose of bad news, though, from my pal Jim Shepherd
Despite the fact that tomorrow's supposed to be the day to show love and affection, it looks like Canadian firearms enthusiasts aren't much in love with parts of the government right now.

The reason? A report making the rounds in Canada that says officials have it on "good authority" that our State Department may be on the verge of cutting off all imports of certain calibers of ammunition.

Ammos listed for this rumored ban include the .50BMG, 7.62x39mm Soviet, 7.62x51mm NATO, .308 Winchester, 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington. Additionally, we're hearing that an expansion of this proposed ban might be broadened to include the 6.8mm SPC, 9mm Parabellum, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP- among others.

In other words, State Department officials may be floating a trial balloon to see if there are howls of protest, or whimpers of compliance. Canadian elected officials who have directed this information to me say the move seems to be motivated by "emboldened" anti-gun officials who think they have a kindred spirit in President Obama.

Additionally, Canadian officials tell me they are hearing rumblings of blanket export bans on certain firearms to Canada and the attachment of DSP-83 End Use Certificates (with their $250 Export Fee) attached to all other types of American firearms.

Should that happen, opposition leaders remind Canadian firearms owners, it will not affect European Union imports. Firearms and ammo exported from Europe would be unaffected- and certainly at far more appealing prices than comparable U-S firearms. In effect, the State Department would be hammering gun manufacturers, distributors and exporters in the United States while simultaneously making firearms -and ammunition - ownership and acquisition more difficult for Canadians. To antigun politicians, this must smell like roses. To pro-gun politicians in Canada, it smells fishy, and they're trying to drum up awareness on both sides of the border because it is "still being fought and the battle isn't over yet."

But it looks like an indirect campaign against firearms and ammo may have already begun.

Saw this on Jim's newsletter. Nothing we didn't expect and already wrote my Senators.

Now, to really spoil everyones day, I am trying to confirm that the el Presidente's Spendulus Bill includes a bill that establishes nation gun registration and licensing. Has anyone out there been able to confirm that? NRA's site had the first details linked yeserday evening and a senator speaking on Fox cable referrd to it also. If this is true, this will be the greatest assault on "2A", in history.

Here is the final text of the bill. Search away ! But the difficult part is going to be references to existing law, then backtracking to see what the modifications do that law.

I think you may have confused HR 45from Illnois Rep. Bobby Rush with the Stimulus bill. It is seperate but you are right it is a danger we need to fight againist.

So the U.S. State Department wants to shut off the flow of "military" ammo to people who were supposedly disarmed a long time ago? Is there maybe something brewing in Canuckastan that has the Canadian central government worried? Maybe somebody figured out that a new country with wheat, oil, and timber doesn't need an eastern coastline?

well, for the price of a few rounds, you could solve this problem once and for all.

But until the day comes that they're more afraid of us, than we are of them...GET USED TO IT.

Btw, that's not just a great idea...that (unfortunately) is world history.

If I'm reading it correctly, it's the Canadian State Department that is cutting off imports. Though not from Europe. Which makes me wonder what NAFTA implications this might have.

"well, for the price of a few rounds, you could solve this problem once and for all."

That kind of talk isn't really helpful. It reinforces the "nut" in "gun nut."

We have the NRA and the ballot. It's worked well enough that the Dems are scared of bringing up gun control (for now). Start talking idiocy about assassination, and we get marginalized and defeated.

The dems are scared to bring new guns laws? Are you high? Keep your head in the sand and you won't see all the new gun laws that are coming. I bet there are a couple in that stimulus bill no one read. They are running scared from all of us. I will remember to go vote for my demcrat senators and congressmen that are in office for life. Because they are scared. I spit beverage all over my key board on that one.

The Dems have been in control of Congress for two years. Seen any gun-control legislation? Obama and Biden tripped over each other to say they were gun-friendly. They're liars, of course, but they felt they had to lie.

"Keep your head in the sand and you won't see all the new gun laws that are coming."

My head is not in the sand. My antennae are up. See that part where I said, "for now"? If I see a bad bill coming, I'll squawk. And it would be nice if they weren't able to say, "We need this legislation because gun owners are dangerous advocates of political assassination."

Dave: If they come for our guns, we are still going to kill them.

Hopefully, they read today's New York Times Op-Ed entitled "The Coming Swarm."

Hard to believe that the NY Times would print an article that so plainly supports the need for legally armed and responsible citizens!

Your antennae can be up all day and you can squawk all you want. The dems will get just what they want. It is coming. They have a supermajority now. They have their three RINO's that break the fillibuster. Its called a perfect storm. Oh wait, nothing is going to happen or it already would have. No worries.

So I'm criticized for saying that I'm alert for any coming gun control legislation, but dubious that much will be attempted...

...but people spouting loose talk about killing politicians get no criticism whatsoever.

This reminds me of why I'm occasionally embarrassed to be at gun shows. The whole camo-pants faux-Hitler-quotes Xtreme-tactical-operator sniper-groupie Tree-of-Liberty act really isn't helpful. We need respectable resolution, not duToitian blowhardness.

And as far as allegedly not being aware of the threat from Dems, I held my nose (firmly) and voted for McCain, unlike many conservative and libertarian gun owners who spouted off on gun forums about "teaching those RINOs a lesson." I'm fully aware of the threat, so I didn't stay home and pout or piss my vote away on a third-party candidate. And I pay my NRA dues faithfully while others don't because they say the NRA is too (for the love of God) "compromising." I think that's more constructive action than ideologically masturbatory Minuteman fantasies.
