The U.S. Supreme Court says Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting, and the ruling will likely invalidate the 26-year-old ban on handguns in the City of Chicago.
In fact, the Illinois State Rifle Association has already filed a lawsuit challenging the Chicago ban. They filed the suit within 15 minutes of the high court's ruling.

Mayor Richard M. Daley is a staunch supporter of gun control, and said he does not know if the Supreme Court decision striking down Washington's handgun ban will affect the Chicago ban.
But the mayor called the ruling "a very frightening decision."

What about a concerted effort by EVERY state association to bring some level of lawsuit againist infringements? I am all for swamping the court system in a full frontal attack. I guess we just need the dollars behind us...

IMHO Mayor Daley has to be one of biggest assholes in public office.
He must be pissed off because him and his cronies cannot figure a way to make a buck off the public defending themselves.
I think we are better off working on the worst of these first--I think one of the reasons that Heller was successful is that it didn't try to get too much at once. If we shoot for the moon, we are too likely to set the wrong precedents. Not that we shouldn't aim for the moon, just that it may be better to go in stages.
Nice post! Can’t wait for the next one. Keep stuff like this coming.
