More Good News

This is from Steven Strauss at the Huffington Post. HuPo is, of course, a blood enemy, a conveniently-collected-in-one-place group of swine who would feed their collective grandmothers into wood chipper to advance the cause of civilian disarmament one millimeter along the road to totalitarianism. That's what makes this article interesting. 10 Reasons Strict Gun Control Will Be Difficult in America...here are the first 2:
1. Americans Are Divided On the Issue of Guns -- According to a Pew Research poll conducted after Newtown, 42 percent of Americans strongly believe gun control is more important than gun rights. However, about 37 percent strongly believe gun rights are more important than gun control. A significant number of American citizens reject even the most basic limitations on gun rights. And such citizens vote for candidates based on this strongly-held issue. Citizens supporting gun control, however, don't let that issue determine how they choose their representatives.
2. Gun Advocacy Groups are Well-Funded -- Because many Americans are passionate about gun rights, groups such as the National Rifle Association (NRA) have the resources for a prolonged fight. The NRA's annual budget is approximately $300 million and it has about four million members. It's one of the largest, and most powerful, advocacy groups in America. For example, the NRA outspends gun control advocacy groups, in lobbying expenses, by 10 to 1. Many NRA members disagree with the NRA's position on gun control, but they all receive its mailings -- giving the NRA a massive platform to highlight (positively or negatively) any politician (or issue) it targets. As a consequence, few politicians are willing to risk the NRA's ire by supporting gun control legislation.
After reading the whole thing, send the NRA what you can afford and email your federal and state legislators! That's what I'm doing tomorrow.

I agree. I've been emailing mine every other day. Go to congress.org
it makes it very easy. Just copy and paste your message frequently and get it in there. Let them know how you feel.

I sit tonite watching how easy it has been for the POTUS to get repubs to approve 4 trillion more to our debt. The Dems run circles around rinos. Dont think when they get time to do gun control you will walk away unbloodied. I will bet money we lose big time in some aspect we arent even focused on...

I haven't written my senators for a while - a couple months. Thanks for the reminder.

I'll think about my correspondence enough this time to include my opinion on recall. I'm sick of these legislators not abiding by their oath of office. The founders were very clear on their intent with the 2nd amendment, and natural and common law actually makes it "superfluous." We'll, that's what some of the founders thought. I wish they were right.

"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter: So help me God." - U.S. legislature oath of office

How many elected officials, and bureaucrats (under similar oath), have violated their own words? No wonder nullification, impeachment, recall, and succession are such common words these days.

ILLINOIS STATE SENATE PRESIDENT JOHN CULLERTON TO INTRODUCE NEAR TOTAL GUN BAN ON JANUARY 2ND

Illinois Senate President John Cullerton will introduce a so called “assault weapons” ban on Wednesday when the legislature returns for its “lame duck” session. Cullerton hopes to ramrod the bill through and get it to Governor Quinn for signature by Friday. If he is successful at doing so, nearly every gun you currently own will be banned and will be subject to confiscation by the Illinois State Police.

Here is the contents of the email below. We need all the help we can get on this so please contact your Illinois senate and house members tomorrow (Wednesday, Jan. 2, 21013). Please be courteous but be firm.

The ISRA has learned from a credible source that Illinois Senate President John Cullerton will introduce a so called “assault weapons” ban on Wednesday when the legislature returns for its “lame duck” session. Cullerton hopes to ramrod the bill through and get it to Governor Quinn for signature by Friday. If he is successful at doing so, nearly every gun you currently own will be banned and will be subject to confiscation by the Illinois State Police.

Based on what we know about Cullerton’s bill, firearms that would be banned include all semiautomatic rifles, pistols, and shotguns. Pump action shotguns would be banned as well. This would be a very comprehensive ban that would include not only so-called “assault weapons” but also such classics as M1 Garands and 1911-based pistols. There would be no exemptions and no grandfathering. You would have a very short window to turn in your guns to the State Police to avoid prosecution.

HERE IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO TO SAVE YOUR GUNS.

1. Beginning Wednesday, call your State Senator and politely tell him or her that you are a law abiding firearm owner and that you strongly oppose Cullerton’s gun ban. Also, be sure to call your State Representative as well and politely deliver the same message. If you do not know who your State Representative please call the Illinois State Board of Elections at 217-782-4141.

2. Forward this alert to all your gun owning friends and family members. Be sure to tell them to call their senators and representatives as well.

3. Post this alert to any and all Internet bulletin boards and blogs to which you belong.

4. Join or renew your membership in the ISRA. Encourage your friends and family to join as well.

5. Make a generous donation to the ISRA. We are in desperate need of your financial support to help beat back the onslaught of gun grab bills coming our way in 2013.

I donated to NRA-ILA for the end of the year. I do wish NRA had a easy chart of "money given here goes to these things." My understanding is membership monies do not go to lobbying, but that's what NRA-ILA is for. Off the top of my head I can think of a couple of NRA "divisions" that get money.

NRA
NRA Institute for Legislative Action
NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund
NRA Political Victory Fund
NRA Foundation

And I'm probably missing a few.

Something tells me that the text of the bill will be rather subtle and tricky when it comes out; Makes me glad that the NRA has all those lawyers hanging out on K Street to carefully read and parse the damn thing.

I fear that at least something will in fact pass, so we should give to the Second Amendment Foundation as well so they'll have a war chest for the inevitable litigation.
